Do you study in college, or school, or does it mean you read books?’ She gave the most beautiful answer; she said, ‘A student is someone who has an open mind and open heart, someone who right from the beginning accepts that they don’t know anything, student knows that whatever he knows would be superseded later by new knowledge, student understands that the universe is constantly changing… and so student understands that knowledge is constantly changing’,” Rahul said.He then quoted the student’s description of another kind of people and said, “She told me that there is another category of people; they are not students… They are absolutely convinced that they know everything.””They believe that the universe is static, and they believe that the knowledge emerges from inside them; they believe that they are God, that everything that is to be known is known to them; they are arrogant, they don’t listen, they don’t respect other people’s truth. I said, what do you call these people? (AP Photo) NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday alleged that the Centre was pressuring automobile manufacturers not to publicly disclose that E20 petrol could damage vehicles manufactured before 2023, a claim rejected by the BJP, which cited public statements by leading automakers backing the ethanol-blended fuel.Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said he had written to 29 manufacturers of motorcycles, scooters, cars and SUVs, asking whether vehicles manufactured before 2023 were compatible with E20 petrol and whether companies would compensate consumers if the fuel damaged vehicles or reduced mileage.Claiming that none of the companies responded in writing, Kejriwal said he had detailed phone conversations with officials from nine manufacturers.”According to them, from a technical and engineering standpoint, using E20 fuel in vehicles manufactured before 2023 could damage the vehicle, including the engine and fuel train system, and could also reduce fuel efficiency,” he alleged.Kejriwal further claimed that the officials told him the Centre was “openly threatening” manufacturers.”They told me that if they publicly disclosed these facts, they would face consequences, including the closure of their plants or enforcement action by agencies such as the ED, the Income Tax Department and the CBI, which could ultimately shut down their companies,” he alleged.The AAP chief also questioned the government’s push for E20 petrol.”The Modi government has resorted to strong-arm tactics to impose E20 petrol,” Kejriwal alleged.He claimed that nearly 30 crore vehicles manufactured before 2023, including around 22 crore two-wheelers and eight crore four-wheelers, could be affected by the fuel. He also alleged that ethanol was more expensive than petrol, offered lower mileage because of its lower calorific value and did not benefit farmers.Kejriwal further claimed that Delhi Police was trying to get a proposed national town hall on E20 fuel, scheduled for Saturday at the Constitution Club, cancelled.Responding to the allegations, the BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya said the country’s automobile industry had consistently maintained that E20 petrol was safe and suitable for vehicles after extensive testing. Citing public statements by industry executives, the party said Toyota Kirloskar Motor Country Head and Executive Vice President Vikram Gulati had described E20 as a “high-performance, clean fuel” introduced only after rigorous testing, including on older vehicles.Hitting back at Kejriwal, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya accused the AAP leader of spreading misinformation and ignoring publicly available evidence from automobile manufacturers.”Arvind Kejriwal claims he has spoken to automobile manufacturers and that they believe E20 blending is ‘not desirable’. The automobile industry itself says exactly the opposite,” Malviya said in a post on X.Citing statements made by senior industry executives, Malviya said Toyota Kirloskar Motor Country Head and Executive Vice President Vikram Gulati had stated that E20 was introduced only after rigorous testing, including on older vehicles. He also cited Maruti Suzuki Senior Executive Officer Rahul Bharti, who said the company had analysed service data from 2.84 crore vehicles in FY26, including over 1.5 crore older, non-E20-certified vehicles, and found no evidence of corrosion, abnormal wear and tear or reduced component life due to E20 fuel. Malviya further referred to Hero MotoCorp Chief Business Officer Ashutosh Varma, who said the company’s service data showed no higher incidence of vehicle damage in two-wheelers running on E20. (AP Photo) NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday alleged that the Centre was pressuring automobile manufacturers not to publicly disclose that E20 petrol could damage vehicles manufactured before 2023, a claim rejected by the BJP, which cited public statements by leading automakers backing the ethanol-blended fuel.Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said he had written to 29 manufacturers of motorcycles, scooters, cars and SUVs, asking whether vehicles manufactured before 2023 were compatible with E20 petrol and whether companies would compensate consumers if the fuel damaged vehicles or reduced mileage.Claiming that none of the companies responded in writing, Kejriwal said he had detailed phone conversations with officials from nine manufacturers.”According to them, from a technical and engineering standpoint, using E20 fuel in vehicles manufactured before 2023 could damage the vehicle, including the engine and fuel train system, and could also reduce fuel efficiency,” he alleged.Kejriwal further claimed that the officials told him the Centre was “openly threatening” manufacturers.”They told me that if they publicly disclosed these facts, they would face consequences, including the closure of their plants or enforcement action by agencies such as the ED, the Income Tax Department and the CBI, which could ultimately shut down their companies,” he alleged.The AAP chief also questioned the government’s push for E20 petrol.”The Modi government has resorted to strong-arm tactics to impose E20 petrol,” Kejriwal alleged.He claimed that nearly 30 crore vehicles manufactured before 2023, including around 22 crore two-wheelers and eight crore four-wheelers, could be affected by the fuel. He also alleged that ethanol was more expensive than petrol, offered lower mileage because of its lower calorific value and did not benefit farmers.Kejriwal further claimed that Delhi Police was trying to get a proposed national town hall on E20 fuel, scheduled for Saturday at the Constitution Club, cancelled.Responding to the allegations, the BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya said the country’s automobile industry had consistently maintained that E20 petrol was safe and suitable for vehicles after extensive testing. Citing public statements by industry executives, the party said Toyota Kirloskar Motor Country Head and Executive Vice President Vikram Gulati had described E20 as a “high-performance, clean fuel” introduced only after rigorous testing, including on older vehicles.Hitting back at Kejriwal, BJP IT department head Amit Malviya accused the AAP leader of spreading misinformation and ignoring publicly available evidence from automobile manufacturers.”Arvind Kejriwal claims he has spoken to automobile manufacturers and that they believe E20 blending is ‘not desirable’. The automobile industry itself says exactly the opposite,” Malviya said in a post on X.Citing statements made by senior industry executives, Malviya said Toyota Kirloskar Motor Country Head and Executive Vice President Vikram Gulati had stated that E20 was introduced only after rigorous testing, including on older vehicles. He also cited Maruti Suzuki Senior Executive Officer Rahul Bharti, who said the company had analysed service data from 2.84 crore vehicles in FY26, including over 1.5 crore older, non-E20-certified vehicles, and found no evidence of corrosion, abnormal wear and tear or reduced component life due to E20 fuel. Malviya further referred to Hero MotoCorp Chief Business Officer Ashutosh Varma, who said the company’s service data showed no higher incidence of vehicle damage in two-wheelers running on E20. He added that Hyundai Motor India, TVS Motor Company and Bajaj Auto had also publicly reaffirmed their confidence in the E20 programme.”When the country’s leading automobile manufacturers publicly state that E20 is safe after extensive testing and crores of real-world service records, anonymous conversations and political sound bites cannot outweigh engineering evidence. Kharge said ‘democracy is not safe’, to which Nadda replied ‘it’s a normal situation’ NEW DELHI: The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday witnessed a sharp exchange between Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the House J.P. Nadda over the police action against students during the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, with the Congress alleging an assault on democracy and the BJP defending the crackdown as a routine law-and-order response.Raising the issue in the House, Kharge said, “Democracy is not safe. People are not safe,” and urged the government to take action against those who entered the protest site without authorisation. “Those who went there without authorization should be punished by the government,” he said.The remarks came amid a continuing political row over the police action during the student-led march from Jantar Mantar towards Parliament, organised to protest alleged irregularities in competitive examinations. The march was denied permission by Delhi Police and clashes broke out after protesters attempted to breach barricades.Addressing that incident, responding to the Opposition, Nadda defended the police action, saying it was a standard law-and-order measure.”It was a very normal law and order situation that we have to understand. Police acted to maintain the order,” he said, accusing the Opposition of trying to “sensationalise and politicise a law and order activity by the police.”Nadda also said that “any student who is into activism will have to face such a situation,” adding that protests cannot be allowed to override law and order.Drawing a parallel with the Emergency, the Union minister recalled his own experience as a student activist.”I have been a student activist and I was arrested several times from the classroom during the Emergency under Congress rule,” he said, arguing that student activism has historically involved such consequences.The Opposition has repeatedly demanded a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the police action, while the government has maintained that the force acted within the law to prevent an unauthorised march towards Parliament.Get the latest India News and Live updates. NEW DELHI: A special fast-track court on Wednesday listed the CBI’s chargesheet in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case for consideration on August 3 and granted the agency three more days to file the remaining annexures, according to news agency ANI.The court noted that the chargesheet filed on Tuesday was not accompanied by the statements of witnesses or the list of documents. The CBI told the court that the records were voluminous and were being scanned before being filed.Earlier on Tuesday, the CBI filed a chargesheet against 13 accused, including three National Testing Agency (NTA) paper experts, two coaching centre associates, middlemen and several beneficiary candidates.The agency invoked charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and destruction of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.”The CBI cited 360 witnesses, 422 documents and 43 material objects in this charge sheet. All 13 chargesheeted persons are in judicial custody as on date,” the agency’s spokesperson had said.The CBI said it had attached digital forensic analysis reports, handwriting expert opinions and academic experts’ assessments of the leaked question paper.”These reports confirmed the role of the accused in circulation of leaked questions prior to the date of examination,” the spokesperson added.The agency took over the investigation on May 12 following allegations of irregularities and a paper leak in the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3. The examination was subsequently cancelled, and a re-examination was conducted on June 21.The controversy snowballed into a major political issue, with the Cockroach Janta Party leading weeks of protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The agitation eventually culminated in the resignation of then Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.Following the registration of the FIR, the CBI carried out raids at 92 locations across Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and other states.According to the agency, its two-month investigation uncovered the alleged conspiracy from the source of the paper leak to the beneficiary candidates, leading to the identification of the entire chain involved.Among those named in the chargesheet are three arrested NTA subject experts—PV Kulkarni (Chemistry), Manisha Gurunath Mandhare (Biology) and Manisha Sanjay Havaldar (Physics).The chargesheet also names Manoj Shirure, a doctor from Latur; Tejas Harshadkumar Shah, a physics faculty member at Pune-based Dr Abhang Prabhu Medical Academy (APMA); and Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar of a Latur coaching centre.The CBI said it had also traced the money trail in the case and frozen several bank accounts, bank lockers and a demat account linked to the accused.Get the latest India News and Live updates. NEW DELHI: A special fast-track court on Wednesday listed the CBI’s chargesheet in the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak case for consideration on August 3 and granted the agency three more days to file the remaining annexures, according to news agency ANI.The court noted that the chargesheet filed on Tuesday was not accompanied by the statements of witnesses or the list of documents. The CBI told the court that the records were voluminous and were being scanned before being filed.Earlier on Tuesday, the CBI filed a chargesheet against 13 accused, including three National Testing Agency (NTA) paper experts, two coaching centre associates, middlemen and several beneficiary candidates.The agency invoked charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust and destruction of evidence under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.”The CBI cited 360 witnesses, 422 documents and 43 material objects in this charge sheet. All 13 chargesheeted persons are in judicial custody as on date,” the agency’s spokesperson had said.The CBI said it had attached digital forensic analysis reports, handwriting expert opinions and academic experts’ assessments of the leaked question paper.”These reports confirmed the role of the accused in circulation of leaked questions prior to the date of examination,” the spokesperson added.The agency took over the investigation on May 12 following allegations of irregularities and a paper leak in the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3. The examination was subsequently cancelled, and a re-examination was conducted on June 21.The controversy snowballed into a major political issue, with the Cockroach Janta Party leading weeks of protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The agitation eventually culminated in the resignation of then Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.Following the registration of the FIR, the CBI carried out raids at 92 locations across Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi and other states.According to the agency, its two-month investigation uncovered the alleged conspiracy from the source of the paper leak to the beneficiary candidates, leading to the identification of the entire chain involved.Among those named in the chargesheet are three arrested NTA subject experts—PV Kulkarni (Chemistry), Manisha Gurunath Mandhare (Biology) and Manisha Sanjay Havaldar (Physics).The chargesheet also names Manoj Shirure, a doctor from Latur; Tejas Harshadkumar Shah, a physics faculty member at Pune-based Dr Abhang Prabhu Medical Academy (APMA); and Shivraj Raghunath Motegaonkar of a Latur coaching centre.The CBI said it had also traced the money trail in the case and frozen several bank accounts, bank lockers and a demat account linked to the accused.Get the latest India News and Live updates.
