Amarnath Yatra bus accident leaves several pilgrims injured (Representative image) At least 39 pilgrims undertaking the annual Amarnath Yatra were injured after a speeding bus skidded off the road in the Kangan area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday, officials said, as cited by news agency PTI.”Spoke with Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal and health officials and inquired about the health condition of Shri Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims injured in the unfortunate road accident earlier this morning at Ganiwan, Ganderbal. 39 pilgrims returning after Darshan of Baba Barfani sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at SKIMS. I have directed the health officials to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care,” J&K lieutenant general Manoj Sinha said in a post on X. The bus plunged onto a house in Hariganwan after the driver reportedly lost control while negotiating a sharp curve. The impact severely damaged the house but prevented the vehicle from rolling into the Sindh River. It also sought the registration of a criminal case against Mohandas under all applicable legal provisions and called for an inquiry into the YouTube channel that carried the video, its source and its circulation across social media platforms.In a separate statement, the student organisation alleged that Mohandas’ comments reflected an ideology that rejected constitutional values, democratic rights and the principles of Kerala’s social reform movement. It further claimed that the remarks attempted to justify violence against peaceful protesters while portraying thousands of students in a negative light.The controversy also drew a sharp reaction from former Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who condemned the alleged remarks and demanded immediate legal action against Mohandas.Without naming anyone directly, Vijayan also criticised a BJP MP from Telangana for allegedly calling for students protesting over the NEET paper leak to be shot. In a Facebook post, he said such statements reflected a mindset that sought to eliminate dissent rather than engage with it democratically.Vijayan further questioned why the Kerala Police had not acted against Mohandas despite registering cases against people who had staged peaceful solidarity protests in the state during the student agitation in Delhi.He also accused the UDF government of turning the police and legal system into passive spectators to appease the RSS. NEW DELHI: BJP MP Kangana Ranaut Tuesday doubled down on her attack on the Gen Z protestors who had mobilised at the now-withdrawn CJP protest, calling them “Generation Gutter”, who “try to live independently without accountability”.Ranaut dubbed Gen Z women as “so-called westernised Indian women”, who are “not good at studies, but they are so ugly and corrupt that they cannot be homemakers either”, yet they “proudly flaunt their freedom to use drugs, consume alcohol, or have endless body counts”.Lashing out at the “behaviour of young Hindu women”, who had gathered to protest against the NEET paper leak and were demanding the resignation of then Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the actress-turned-politician said those female protestors wanted to “imitate the lives of independent career women without earning that freedom”.”Women who are truly independent make rebellious choices, hold bold opinions, take unconventional career paths, and accept accountability for their actions. National Medical Commission (TNN) NEW DELHI: Every medical college regulated by the National Medical Commission (NMC) will now have to set up an “Enabling Unit” for students with benchmark disabilities, providing a single point of contact for reasonable accommodation, academic and clinical support, and a barrier-free learning environment. The move follows the NMC’s new guidelines on assessing students with benchmark disabilities for MBBS admissions.In a circular issued on Monday, the NMC directed all medical colleges and institutions under its ambit to constitute the Enabling Units in compliance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, and recent Supreme Court directions aimed at ensuring inclusive medical education.According to the circular, the Enabling Unit will function as the single point of contact for students with benchmark disabilities. It will facilitate access to reasonable accommodation, academic and clinical support measures, and barrier-free access within the institution. The unit will also receive and address requests for disability-specific accommodations during the course of study, including clinical training and internship.”Clinical accommodations are reasonable modifications that enable medical students with disabilities to participate in clinical training and patient care without compromising academic standards or patient safety,” said Prof Satendra Singh, coordinator of the Enabling Unit at UCMS and GTB hospital. He added that the Enabling Units are not a matter of charity but a mandatory requirement under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, aimed at providing a level playing field for students with disabilities.Medical colleges have also been asked to publicise the availability of the Enabling Unit through their websites and notice boards, coordinate with Disability Assessment Boards, faculty and hospital administration, and maintain records of requests and accommodations while ensuring confidentiality and non-discrimination.The NMC has directed all medical colleges to ensure that the Enabling Unit is functional, easily accessible and adequately publicised to promote an inclusive educational environment for students with benchmark disabilities.
