Ram Mandir Trust holds second meeting after donation row NEW DELHI: The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust on Wednesday held its second meeting in Ayodhya since the alleged donation embezzlement case surfaced, reviewing administrative matters as the probe continues.The trust said it has received 5,200 applications for the post of CEO of the Ram Mandir, but has deferred the appointment by a month to allow the selection committee more time to scrutinise the applications. It also announced plans to set up a permanent institute to train and certify priests for the temple. Considering the volume of applications, the selection committee sought one month’s additional time, which has been approved by the Trust,” Giri said.He added that the trust would appoint a secretary on an interim basis to meet its growing administrative requirements until the CEO is selected.Interim general secretary Krishna Mohan said there was no discussion on appointing the CEO as the trust is still awaiting the report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged donation embezzlement case.”There was no discussion on the appointment of the CEO as the SIT report has not been received yet,” Krishna Mohan said.The trust also announced the formation of a permanent committee to oversee the religious affairs of the Ram temple.According to Giri, the committee will comprise nine saints, including five from Ayodhya and four from outside, to supervise the temple’s religious activities.The meeting comes weeks after the trust accepted the resignations of its former general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra following the alleged donation embezzlement case. The government is ready for discussion, and the Opposition should not keep changing the goalpost,” he said.Calling Parliament the appropriate forum to address the issue, Nadda urged both the government and the Opposition to work together on a long-term solution.”Children are ours, yours, and the future of the country. It is the responsibility of both the government and the Opposition to protect their future. We should discuss every aspect and come up with a concrete policy,” he said.Earlier in the day, leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi called for Pradhan’s resignation, saying it was among the protesters’ “non-negotiable” demands.The CJP has been spearheading protests over the alleged examination irregularities since June.Its Parliament march on July 20 saw students and supporters attempting to reach Parliament despite heavy police barricading, lathi-charge and the use of tear gas. NEW DELHI: Former BJP leader K Annamalai on Wednesday criticised the Centre over its handling of the NEET controversy, alleging a lack of accountability despite repeated question paper leaks and questioning the delay in engaging with protesting students.The former Tamil Nadu BJP chief, who now heads the “We the Leaders” movement and is set to launch his own political party, said the government should have initiated talks before the protests escalated.”Why was meaningful engagement delayed until the protest had escalated to a flashpoint? What kept you waiting?” Annamalai asked in a statement.Reiterating that protest is a fundamental right in a democracy, he urged the Centre to engage in meaningful dialogue, ensure transparency and take swift action to address students’ concerns.Annamalai said he had consistently supported NEET, arguing that it created a uniform admission process and offered students from underprivileged backgrounds a fair opportunity to pursue medical education.However, he said the system had lost credibility after the NEET-UG question paper was allegedly leaked three times in the past five years.”Imagine the amount of pressure it puts on students, who had to go through the examination process yet another time when the system that was supposed to bring in uniformity was failing,” he said.Alleging there had been “no accountability” for the repeated leaks, Annamalai said the failure of the examination system pushed students onto the streets.”I believe strongly that it was that moment that brought in a shift in the minds of the students to take to the streets to cry their hearts out,” he said.Stressing that a nation’s strength depends on the confidence its youth have in public institutions, Annamalai warned that the education system risks losing credibility if students no longer trust its fairness.”If our students lose faith in the fairness and credibility of our education system, we are jeopardising the future of our nation,” he said.At the same time, Annamalai urged students and protest organisers to remain focused on their original demands, cautioning that prolonged agitations often attract people with vested interests seeking to divert the movement for political or unrelated agendas.”If you remain silent and let these people with vested interests further their agenda, then you are deviating from your core objectives. NEW DELHI: Former BJP leader K Annamalai on Wednesday criticised the Centre over its handling of the NEET controversy, alleging a lack of accountability despite repeated question paper leaks and questioning the delay in engaging with protesting students.The former Tamil Nadu BJP chief, who now heads the “We the Leaders” movement and is set to launch his own political party, said the government should have initiated talks before the protests escalated.”Why was meaningful engagement delayed until the protest had escalated to a flashpoint? What kept you waiting?” Annamalai asked in a statement.Reiterating that protest is a fundamental right in a democracy, he urged the Centre to engage in meaningful dialogue, ensure transparency and take swift action to address students’ concerns.Annamalai said he had consistently supported NEET, arguing that it created a uniform admission process and offered students from underprivileged backgrounds a fair opportunity to pursue medical education.However, he said the system had lost credibility after the NEET-UG question paper was allegedly leaked three times in the past five years.”Imagine the amount of pressure it puts on students, who had to go through the examination process yet another time when the system that was supposed to bring in uniformity was failing,” he said.Alleging there had been “no accountability” for the repeated leaks, Annamalai said the failure of the examination system pushed students onto the streets.”I believe strongly that it was that moment that brought in a shift in the minds of the students to take to the streets to cry their hearts out,” he said.Stressing that a nation’s strength depends on the confidence its youth have in public institutions, Annamalai warned that the education system risks losing credibility if students no longer trust its fairness.”If our students lose faith in the fairness and credibility of our education system, we are jeopardising the future of our nation,” he said.At the same time, Annamalai urged students and protest organisers to remain focused on their original demands, cautioning that prolonged agitations often attract people with vested interests seeking to divert the movement for political or unrelated agendas.”If you remain silent and let these people with vested interests further their agenda, then you are deviating from your core objectives. The Speaker ordered Assembly marshals to remove Kunal Ghosh from the House NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Kunal Ghosh was suspended from the West Bengal Assembly for the remainder of Wednesday after he disrupted proceedings by interrupting rebel TMC Chief Whip Akhruzzaman during a debate on the Home and Hill Affairs budget.The suspension came after marshals forcibly escorted Ghosh out of the House when he refused to return to his seat despite repeated directions from the Speaker.The dramatic scenes unfolded amid an escalating power struggle between rival factions within the TMC legislature party.Marshals remove Ghosh after disruption in HouseThe disruption began when Akhruzzaman, who belongs to the Ritabrata Banerjee-led rebel faction of the TMC, rose to speak during the debate.Ghosh walked up to the microphone and interrupted him, questioning why his own name had allegedly been removed from the list of speakers.Speaker Rathindra Bose repeatedly appealed to Ghosh to return to his seat, while senior leaders also attempted to defuse the situation.However, after Ghosh refused to comply, the Speaker ordered Assembly marshals to remove him from the House. Ghosh resisted, leading to a brief scuffle before marshals carried him out, triggering protests inside the Assembly.Industries minister Tapas Roy initially proposed that Ghosh be suspended for the remainder of the ongoing Assembly session. However, chief minister Suvendu Adhikari suggested that suspending him for the day would be sufficient.”This type of behaviour is not acceptable.
