Statewide, Bihar witnessed a record participation of 66.91 per cent, reflecting a strong engagement across constituencies. Hayaghat, which falls under the Darbhanga district, has been a closely watched seat due to its history of alternating party control. The constituency is currently represented by BJP’s Ram Chandra Prasad, who won the 2020 election by a margin of 10,252 votes. NEW DELHI: The Hayaghat Assembly constituency in Bihar, a general category seat and part of the 243-member state legislature, recorded a voter turnout of 65.40 per cent in the ongoing Assembly elections. Statewide, Bihar witnessed a record participation of 66.91 per cent, reflecting a strong engagement across constituencies. Hayaghat, which falls under the Darbhanga district, has been a closely watched seat due to its history of alternating party control. The constituency is currently represented by BJP’s Ram Chandra Prasad, who won the 2020 election by a margin of 10,252 votes. He secured 67,030 votes (46.86 percent), defeating RJD’s Bhola Yadav, who garnered 56,778 votes (39.69 percent). In the previous election in 2015, JD(U)’s Amar Nath Gami had emerged victorious with 65,677 votes (53.32 percent), defeating LJP’s Ramesh Choudhary, who received 32,446 votes (26.34 percent).

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant on Wednesday wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urging him to deline any “recognition, status, privilege or facility” to any “purported faction or breakaway group claiming to represent the party”.”…The Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) continues to be recognised as a single political party represented in the House through its duly authorised leader and whip, and that no separate recognition, status, privilege or facility be accorded to any purported faction or breakaway group claiming to represent the party; no decision be taken on any such request, if received, without first affording the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) an opportunity to place its submissions before your office,” the letter said.”The party further reserves all rights available to it in law, including the right to invoke the provisions of the Tenth Schedule and pursue such remedies as may be necessary in relation to any conduct inconsistent with the constitutional principles referred to above,” the letter added.Reports suggest that 6 of the 9 Lok Sabha MPs belonging to the Shiv Sena (UBT) may be preparing to switch allegiance to the Shiv Sena led by deputy CM Eknath Shinde. According to these reports, the MPs could travel to New Delhi and may seek recognition as a separate group in Parliament by submitting a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in the coming days. ANI file photo NEW DELHI: For Rohit (26), who left his village in Bihar for Delhi in search of a better future, life has turned upside down after the June 3 fire at the Hauz Rani bed and breakfast.Rohit worked in the B&B kitchen. He was on duty when the blaze broke out.Fearing for two colleagues from his village who were working upstairs, he rushed to the first floor to save them. Trapped in the flames, the three barricaded themselves inside a room and smashed open a window using a bathroom bucket before leaping to safety. Rohit ensured that his colleagues got out first. He was the last to jump.Today, he is bedridden in his rented room in Khirki Extension. His spine is held together with metal rods and his body has multiple fractures. “I have not received any compensation from either of the govts,” Rohit told TOI. His sister, Renu, who now cares for him full-time, said the family was struggling to survive. “Even if the compensation comes, how will it be enough to sustain our entire family?” she asked.After Rohit jumped out of the burning building, local people rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he got preliminary treatment.For his family, however, the hope of financial stability seems like a distant dream. With no steady income and mounting expenses for medicines, follow-up care and transportation, every day has become a struggle. A local NGO has helped keep the family afloat by providing food over the past two weeks. However, the uncertainty of what lies ahead weighs heavily on them.Before the fire, Rohit earned Rs 12,000 a month, while his wife and sister worked as domestic helps in Malviya Nagar to supplement the family’s income. Rohit’s younger son, aged 9 years, lived with him in Delhi and gets home tutoring. His older son studies in Bihar. With Rohit unable to work and the two women forced to quit their jobs to care for him, the family has been compelled to halt the education of both the kids.Nearly two weeks after the tragedy, the family says it is waiting for the promised compensation.
