10 deadliest snakes in the world and where can travellers find them

Venomous snakes generally have no interest in hunting people. Self-preservation, not aggression, drives most of their behaviour. Bites tend to happen by accident: someone steps too close, tries to move a snake out of the way, or corners it without meaning to.

Travellers can cut their risk substantially with a few simple habits: stick to marked trails, wear boots and long trousers when hiking, carry a flashlight after dark, steer clear of tall grass where visibility drops, and never attempt to touch or photograph a snake up close. In areas known for venomous snakes, knowing the location of the nearest medical facility before setting out can save valuable time in an emergency.
