Badrinath donation allegations: BKTC orders investigation over embezzlement claims (Image/PTI) NEW DELHI: Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) Chairman Hemant Dwivedi on Friday said that an inquiry committee has been constituted to conduct an impartial and fact-based investigation into the allegations circulating on social media about the alleged misappropriation of offerings and donations at Shri Badrinath Dham.Dwivedi said that allegations have been taken seriously and an inquiry has been ordered to establish the facts. He added that strict action would be taken against any staff member found guilty after the inquiry, in accordance with the rules. Explanations have also been sought from the employees concerned.The BKTC chairman also clarified that the employee being referred to on social media as his ‘personal secretary’ is not his personal secretary. According to Dwivedi, the individual is a regular government employee of the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee and had earlier served as a personal assistant to three former BKTC chairmen, ANI reported. He added that if the allegations circulating on social media are found to be true during the investigation, stringent action will be taken against those responsible.The statement comes amid heightened scrutiny over the handling of temple donations following the alleged embezzlement of offerings at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.The Uttar Pradesh Police are investigating the alleged financial irregularities after an FIR was registered on June 25. A local court has remanded the accused to judicial custody, while the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been granted additional time to widen the scope of its probe and examine all aspects of the case.The controversy also prompted the resignation of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai and trustee Anil Mishra, who stepped down taking moral responsibility for the incident. Ritabrata faction takes control of party HQ as rebellion intensifies The battle for control of the Trinamool Congress intensified on Friday after the rebel faction led by expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee took control of the party’s organisational headquarters in Kolkata. The move came a day after the faction approached the Election Commission, staking its claim to the party’s name and election symbol.Ritabrata Banerjee, accompanied by senior leaders including Firhad Hakim, Javed Khan, Sandipan Saha and Akhruzzaman, visited the party office on Friday and held a meeting, claiming that his faction was the “real” Trinamool Congress.Leaders aligned with the faction said the required formalities with the owners of the premises had been completed and that the office would now serve as their organisational headquarters.”We are the Trinamool Congress and this office belongs to the Trinamool Congress. There is an emotional connection between the party and this office,” Akhruzzaman was quoted as saying by PTI. The Metropolitan office has functioned as the Trinamool Congress’ operational headquarters since 2022, after the party shifted there when its original office on the EM Bypass underwent reconstruction. By taking control of the premises, the rebel faction sought to strengthen its claim as the party’s legitimate organisational leadership amid its continuing dispute with the Mamata Banerjee-led faction.The development comes amid an intensifying power struggle between the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction and the camp loyal to former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, with both sides claiming to be the legitimate Trinamool Congress following the party’s defeat in the recent Assembly elections.While the dispute has so far revolved around rival organisational claims, party resolutions and legal proceedings, Friday’s move marked a significant development, as the rebel faction sought to establish its presence at the office that has served as the party’s operational headquarters since 2022.Friday’s development came a day after a delegation led by Ritabrata Banerjee met the full bench of the Election Commission in New Delhi.The delegation met Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the two Election Commissioners, presenting its claim over the Trinamool Congress’ organisational structure and leadership.The meeting drew criticism from the Mamata Banerjee camp, which argued that leaders who had been expelled from the party had no authority to represent it before the Election Commission.The Election Commission subsequently wrote to both factions, asking them to submit their respective claims and counterclaims on organisational elections, authorised signatories and control of the party by 5.30 pm on July 6.Get the latest India news and live updates. Ritabrata faction takes control of party HQ as rebellion intensifies The battle for control of the Trinamool Congress intensified on Friday after the rebel faction led by expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee took control of the party’s organisational headquarters in Kolkata. The move came a day after the faction approached the Election Commission, staking its claim to the party’s name and election symbol.Ritabrata Banerjee, accompanied by senior leaders including Firhad Hakim, Javed Khan, Sandipan Saha and Akhruzzaman, visited the party office on Friday and held a meeting, claiming that his faction was the “real” Trinamool Congress.Leaders aligned with the faction said the required formalities with the owners of the premises had been completed and that the office would now serve as their organisational headquarters.”We are the Trinamool Congress and this office belongs to the Trinamool Congress. There is an emotional connection between the party and this office,” Akhruzzaman was quoted as saying by PTI. The Metropolitan office has functioned as the Trinamool Congress’ operational headquarters since 2022, after the party shifted there when its original office on the EM Bypass underwent reconstruction. By taking control of the premises, the rebel faction sought to strengthen its claim as the party’s legitimate organisational leadership amid its continuing dispute with the Mamata Banerjee-led faction.The development comes amid an intensifying power struggle between the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction and the camp loyal to former chief minister Mamata Banerjee, with both sides claiming to be the legitimate Trinamool Congress following the party’s defeat in the recent Assembly elections.While the dispute has so far revolved around rival organisational claims, party resolutions and legal proceedings, Friday’s move marked a significant development, as the rebel faction sought to establish its presence at the office that has served as the party’s operational headquarters since 2022.Friday’s development came a day after a delegation led by Ritabrata Banerjee met the full bench of the Election Commission in New Delhi.The delegation met Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the two Election Commissioners, presenting its claim over the Trinamool Congress’ organisational structure and leadership.The meeting drew criticism from the Mamata Banerjee camp, which argued that leaders who had been expelled from the party had no authority to represent it before the Election Commission.The Election Commission subsequently wrote to both factions, asking them to submit their respective claims and counterclaims on organisational elections, authorised signatories and control of the party by 5.30 pm on July 6.Get the latest India news and live updates. MEA urges Venezuela to look into the death of Indian sailor whose organs were alleg NEW DELHI: India has urgently requested Venezuelan authorities to investigate the alleged desecration of an Indian sailor’s body after his family claimed all vital organs were removed before his mortal remains were repatriated.”We have taken up the matter with Venezuelan authorities with a request to urgently investigate the matter,” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday.The Indian Embassy in Caracas has sought a thorough investigation into the desecration and removal of organs from the mortal remains of Indian sailor Rakesh Chauhan. “Mission has continued to pursue this matter with the concerned local authorities since the incident came to light,” the embassy said in a statement.Family alleges murder, organ removalChauhan’s wife, Ranjana, alleged that her husband died under suspicious circumstances while working aboard a vessel in Venezuela, with his organs removed before the body was returned to India.”My husband had gone to work on a ship; he was murdered there, and his organs were removed. To this day, they haven’t given us a proper report, despite our repeated requests,” she told ANI.She said the family decided to conduct a second post-mortem after the body reached India. “When we had a second post-mortem done here, the report revealed that not a single organ remained in the body… I last spoke to him on 6 May. It was only two or three hours after he left for duty that my father-in-law received a call saying there had been an accident,” she said.Union flags irregularities, missing organsThe Forward Seamen’s Union of India (FSUI) claimed the post-mortem conducted in India found no internal organs in Chauhan’s body. According to the union, the brain, heart, both lungs, kidneys, liver, spleen, pancreas, stomach, intestines, thyroid, hyoid bone, larynx and trachea were all reportedly missing.The union also alleged irregularities in the documentation, claiming the receipt for mortal remains was forged — signed in the name of “Anjana Chauraisya” instead of “Ranjana Chaurasiya” — and that the vessel name mentioned in the employment agreement did not match the one where he was actually posted.Get the latest India news and live updates.
