Robert Vadra and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra (File photo/PTI) NEW DELHI: The BJP on Thursday accused Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her businessman husband, Robert Vadra, of involvement in an alleged attempt to grab a four-acre land parcel in Uttarakhand.Addressing a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari claimed that a relative of Robert Vadra had intimidated a 90-year-old woman in an attempt to force her to vacate her sister’s property.He identified the relative as Saira Vadra, the sister-in-law of Robert Vadra.”Saira Vadra is trying to take possession of a four-acre land parcel in Udham Singh Nagar district. The original land lease is in the name of the late Kulsum Khan, and the property is currently with her 90-year-old sister, Nasreen Khan,” Bhandari said.”When they (the Congress) realise that Saira Vadra cannot get possession of the land through the legal route, they intimidate the occupant. She (Saira) becomes the front, while Priyanka Vadra and Robert Vadra are behind her,” he added.Detailing the alleged attempt to intimidate Nasreen Khan, the BJP leader claimed that the Congress’ local MLA and his supporters tried to force the elderly woman to vacate the property.”Congress MLA Tilak Raj Behar arrived at the property with around 100 supporters late on Wednesday night and threatened Nasreen Khan with dire consequences if she did not vacate the land. Did Priyanka Gandhi Vadra call the Congress MLA and ask him to ensure that her sister-in-law gets possession of the land by intimidating a 90-year-old Muslim woman?” Bhandari asked.He defended his allegation, saying it was based on Nasreen Khan’s own statement, in which she accused Congress workers of trying to get the property handed over to the Vadra family.”The buck doesn’t stop with the Congress MLA; it stops with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Congress claims to stand with Muslims and the poor. This shows their double standards. They cry for Gaza but remain silent on our Sikh brothers in Pakistan,” BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said in a video statement.Pakistan, he asserted, has no “moral authority” to “lecture” India or the world on minority rights.”A 125-year-old important gurdwara has been targeted and demolished. This is not the first such incident. Sonia Gandhi (File photo) NEW DELHI: The BJP on Thursday said senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s “silence” on the reported demolition of a gurdwara in Pakistan is in sharp contrast to her op-eds on Gaza, and accused her of displaying “double standards.”The attack came days after Sonia Gandhi, in an opinion piece in an English daily, accused the BJP-led central government of remaining silent on the “humanitarian crisis” in Gaza resulting from Israel’s war against Hamas.The Congress parliamentary party chairperson has repeatedly criticised the government over the Gaza issue.”Certain champions of human rights like Sonia Gandhi write op-eds on Gaza but remain silent on Sikhs being mistreated and persecuted in Pakistan, atrocities against Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh, or even Muslims in China’s Uyghur region and those killed in Pakistani bombing (in Afghanistan). This shows their double standards. They cry for Gaza but remain silent on our Sikh brothers in Pakistan,” BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said in a video statement.Pakistan, he asserted, has no “moral authority” to “lecture” India or the world on minority rights.”A 125-year-old important gurdwara has been targeted and demolished. This is not the first such incident. Several sites associated with Guru Nanak Dev have been targeted by Islamist mobs with impunity, and no action is taken against them,” he alleged.Poonawalla further claimed that the Sikh population in Pakistan had declined from around 20 lakh at the time of Partition in 1947 to a few thousand now, saying this reflected the “continued persecution” of the community in the neighbouring country.”It is a 99% decline. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Thursday initiated disciplinary action over the recent road surface cave-in on the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, issuing a show-cause notice to the project director while suspending key officials and seeking action against the contractor.The move comes days after videos of the damaged stretch went viral, triggering criticism over the condition of the newly inaugurated expressway.According to NHAI, a show-cause notice has been issued to the project director, fixing responsibility for the incident. A separate notice has also been served to the authority engineer for alleged negligence in services. It has also issued notice to the EPC contractor, seeking an explanation on why it should not be declared a non-performer and debarred from future NHAI works.Additionally, the team leader of the authority engineer has been suspended, while the project manager of the EPC contractor has also been suspended.Earlier, NHAI issued a clarification on X, saying, “NHAI would like to inform that the road surface cave-in at Km 55+480 on the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor occurred due to water stagnation following rainfall, coupled with constraints in commissioning the permanent cross-drainage system at the location.”The authority said the affected stretch was identified during routine inspections and repaired immediately.NHAI said the damaged stretch was identified during routine patrolling on July 1 and repaired on priority to ensure “safe and uninterrupted movement of traffic.”Explaining the delay in completing the permanent drainage system, the authority said the balancing culvert could not be commissioned due to resistance from local residents, while permanent slope protection and chute drain works remain pending because of a land dispute.As an interim measure, NHAI said it has begun constructing a 1.5-km parallel drain and redesigning the drainage gradient until the permanent system is commissioned. It added that the site remains under continuous monitoring and that “all necessary resources have been deployed to ensure safe and smooth traffic movement.”Earlier in the day, the Congress slammed BJP, alleging that the corridor had developed massive potholes within two months of its inauguration and accused the Centre of poor construction quality and corruption in infrastructure projects.Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 213-km Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor on April 14, 2026.
