Who kidnapped Sherlock and the identity revelation
On the morning of her wedding day, Enola learns from Dr. Watson that her older brother has been kidnapped. She immediately abandons her nuptials to search for clues about his whereabouts. At Sherlock’s hotel in Malta, Enola discovers a piece of lace and the word “Khost”, which relates to a city in Afghanistan, written in Morse code on a mirror.

As Enola follows leads, she tracks down a soldier who met Sherlock the night before his disappearance. Before she can extract information from him, he is shot. With his dying breath, the soldier utters a word that Enola initially believes is “Wrath” but later realizes may be “Rathe.”Just one day later, Lord Tewkesbury’s mother, Lady Tewkesbury, is also kidnapped. The kidnapper sets the hotel on fire, possibly to destroy evidence. Despite the destruction Enola discovers a war medal and reconnects with Mikiel Mizzi who suggests that Professor Adeline Rathe may be the perpetrator.Enola returns to Malta and spots a woman wearing the same lace from Sherlock’s hotel room. As she pursues the woman she is shocked to learn the truth: Professor Rathe is actually Moriarty her former enemy from the second film who had previously managed to escape from police custody.
Moriarty’s escape and motives
Moriarty, also known as Mira Troy, served as the criminal mastermind in the second ‘Enola Holmes’ film. After Sherlock and Enola successfully apprehended her she unexpectedly escaped police custody. It is later revealed that Moriarty struck a deal with corrupt officers one of whom was the soldier Enola had encountered. When Enola confronts Moriarty the villain is keeping both Sherlock and Lady Tewkesbury imprisoned in a cell. Moriarty expresses her motivations as twofold: seeking revenge against the Holmes family while also displaying frustration with what she considers to be the family’s hypocritical and “corrupt” actions. However both Enola and Sherlock sense there is more to the story than simple revenge.

The true conspiracy involving Afghan gold
Through their investigation Enola and Lord Tewkesbury discover that a war medal found in the fire matches one belonging to Tewkesbury’s godfather. Upon meeting with the godfather they learn a shocking truth: British soldiers stole Afghan gold during the Battle of Khost. To conceal their crime these soldiers deliberately sank a Maltese ship and falsely claimed the gold originated from that vessel. This revelation leads Enola to understand that Moriarty’s dual mission involves both exposing the Tewkesbury family’s darkest secrets and locating the stolen gold for herself. Enola realizes she has been falling into Moriarty’s carefully constructed traps, with the villain orchestrating events to ensure the truth would be uncovered.Based on previous conversations with Lord Tewkesbury about treasure hidden in Maltese cliffs Enola deduces that the gold must be concealed there. She heads to the cliffside location and discovers Moriarty in a dungeon alongside Sherlock and Lady Tewkesbury. Following an intense confrontation, Enola and her allies overpower Moriarty and apprehend her.
Resolution of the gold and family scandal
Even with Moriarty arrested the Holmes family’s work remains unfinished. Lord Tewkesbury makes a courageous decision to return the gold to Afghanistan and turn in everyone else involved in the theft conspiracy including his own godfather. This decision demonstrates his commitment to justice despite the personal cost to his family’s reputation and standing.

Enola and Lord Tewkesbury’s wedding
The film concludes where it began — with Enola and Lord Tewkesbury’s wedding ceremony. At their originally scheduled wedding before the kidnapping Enola was hesitant to marry him due to her brother’s disapproval and concerns about losing her independence and detective career. However, after the events in Malta and everything the couple experienced together, Enola comes to realize that she can continue pursuing her work as a detective while also being married. The couple ultimately marry, with Sherlock offering his apparent approval of the union. Since Tewkesbury surrendered his title as a consequence of the scandal and his decision to expose the crime, Enola is able to maintain her own surname throughout the marriage.
