CHENNAI: Former AIADMK minister M R Vijayabhaskar on Monday resigned from his MLA post. He handed over his resignation letter to Speaker J C D Prabhakar. He was the sixth AIADMK legislator to resign, bringing down the AIADMK’s numbers from 47 to 41 amidst the ongoing exodus of AIADMK functionaries, including former ministers, MPs, and MLAs.The Speaker issued a statement confirming that the Karur MLA submitted a handwritten resignation under Assembly Rule 21, which has been duly accepted as per Rule 22. He submitted that the 20 per cent ethanol blending programme remained an ongoing experiment and that its impact would become clearer by next year, reported news agency PTI.The Supreme Court, meanwhile, directed the parties to maintain status quo on the Karnataka high court’s order while issuing notice on BPCL’s appeal.A bench of Justices M M Sundresh and Sheel Nagu was hearing BPCL’s challenge to the high court’s direction asking Oil Marketing Companies to consider a representation filed by VINP Distilleries and Sugars seeking enhanced ethanol allocation for the 2025-26 supply year.The Karnataka high court had held that dedicated ethanol plants established under the government’s policy and bound by Long-Term Offtake Agreements (LTOAs) to supply ethanol exclusively to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) could not be denied the benefit of preferential allocation envisaged under those agreements.It had directed Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited to consider and decide the company’s request for enhanced allocation.Opposing the order, Venkataramani submitted that the ethanol allocation process had already concluded in October 2025, when supply contracts were finalised.He informed the court that ethanol allocations had been communicated to 378 suppliers for a total of 1,050 crore litres, of which around 680 crore litres had already been supplied by June 18.The attorney general further argued that increasing the allocation of one supplier would encourage similarly placed companies to seek the same relief, potentially opening the floodgates to litigation and affecting implementation of the national policy.In its petition before the apex court, BPCL contended that VINP Distilleries could not claim an absolute right to supply ethanol merely on the basis of its production capacity, particularly after allocations had already been made to suppliers under the existing framework.The company maintained that altering the allocation process after its conclusion could disrupt the government’s ethanol blending programme.Get the latest India news and live updates. Easy access to abundant information fuelled my curiosity, and I would go down a rabbit hole on the internet, often losing track of time. It was about the process.She also remembers the sense of achievement that came after a long browsing session led to a successful discovery.”It was like a reward for hours of labour,” she added.That older version of the internet rewarded patience. Users opened multiple tabs, followed links, compared sources and slowly built their understanding of a topic.AI has compressed that process.Internet Browsing vs AI BrowsingThe changing internet userSameer Sheikh, an Instagram influencer with 1.6 million followers, says he once relied almost entirely on Google Search to craft scripts for his videos, which decode Bollywood lyrics.His research process involved reading multiple research papers, blogs and articles, comparing information from different sources and then piecing it together into a compelling narrative.AI has changed that workflow.”Since the rise of AI, I now use tools like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity to quickly get a concise summary of information gathered from multiple sources across the internet. This saves me a significant amount of time compared to reading every article individually,” he said.For creators, students and working professionals, this is the biggest draw of AI-assisted browsing. It reduces the time spent moving across webpages and gives users a structured answer almost instantly.But it also changes the relationship between the user and the information.Earlier, users discovered information by navigating the web themselves. Now, many are receiving information filtered, arranged and summarised by AI systems.Is SEO dead in the age of AI browsing?For years, search engine optimisation, or SEO, has been the backbone of digital visibility. The goal was straightforward: optimise webpages so they rank higher on search results and attract more clicks.That model is now under pressure.As AI Overviews and generative search tools answer user queries directly on the results page, the traditional click-through model is being disrupted. Users may get the answer they need without visiting the website that originally produced the information.This has triggered anxiety across the digital publishing and marketing world. If AI can answer questions directly, what happens to websites that depend on search traffic?But digital marketing experts argue that SEO is not dying. It now also includes citation, reference and brand recall within the AI responses itself. The businesses which built shallow, keyword-dense content for ranking are losing relevance fast. The flare-up has reignited concerns over regional security, the future of nuclear negotiations and stability in the Gulf. In an interview with Jaya Menon, representative in India of Iran’s supreme leader Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, who was in Chennai, accuses the US of breaching its commitments, outlines Tehran’s conditions for sustaining the ceasefire, defends Iran’s nuclear and missile programmes, and calls for a greater role for India in promoting peace in West Asia. Iran has accused the US of violating recent understanding by launching strikes on Iranian territory. Does Tehran now consider the agreement effectively breached?From the beginning of negotiations with the United States, even before Feb 28, we believed America does not honour its agreements or signatures. We knew this but still entered into negotiations. While talks were under way, they attacked us and continued the attacks for 40 days. Iran defended itself in a way they never expected.Their objectives were clear. They believed they could collapse the Iranian govt within three days and even change the map of Iran. President Trump publicly stated that Iran would have a different map after the war. They wanted to divide Iran into several parts.
