Image: IANS A 46-year-old Nigerian national has been arrested in Mumbai with 203 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Rs 2.03 crore, police said on Saturday.According to officials of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Worli police station, the accused, identified as Eze Samuel Nweze, a native of Uburu in Nigeria’s Ebonyi state, was allegedly residing illegally in Nalasopara near Mumbai without a valid visa.He was spotted carrying a black bag near Doordarshan Kendra in Worli on Thursday night by a police patrol team, the official said.On noticing the police vehicle, Nweze allegedly attempted to flee but was soon apprehended. He is also said to have confessed to being in the area to supply cocaine to potential customers, the official added.Police said a case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway.Last month, two foreign nationals were arrested in south Delhi’s Maidan Garhi for allegedly trafficking narcotics, with police recovering a commercial quantity of cocaine along with other psychotropic substances.Police said the arrests were made following specific intelligence received on April 27 about two men arriving in the area to supply drugs. Acting on the tip-off, a Maidan Garhi police team laid a trap at the identified location.During the operation, police recovered 102 grams of cocaine, classified as a commercial quantity, along with 13 grams of MDMA and 85 grams of methaqualone, which falls under the intermediate quantity category.The accused were identified as Chijioke Wisdom (26), a resident of Lagos, Nigeria, and Chiqozie (43), from Owerri in Imo State, Nigeria. We have never made any distinction,” he said.While lending support to the daughter, Yogi, however, also took a swipe at Akhilesh, saying political leaders should ensure their own supporters maintain civility while criticising others. “Akhilesh ji, you give advice to others, but also advise your followers and workers to keep their language restrained.”The chief minister said there was a growing need to reflect on the language being used against women, senior citizens, deceased persons and political leaders in public discourse and on social media. “You also need to teach your people. It would be better if you make them understand, and if they cannot understand, hand them over to us, we will make them understand properly,” he said.The remarks come amid a controversy over alleged online trolling and objectionable comments directed at Aditi Yadav, which prompted complaints from the Samajwadi Party and its affiliated organisations. NEW DELHI: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized around 17 kg of foreign-origin gold worth approximately Rs 25 crore in coordinated operations in Kolkata and Agartala, arresting 10 people and dealing a major blow to organised gold smuggling networks, the finance ministry said on Saturday.The seizures were made on June 12 in two separate operations targeting smuggling routes through an international airport and the Indo-Bangladesh border.In a press release, the ministry said, “In a major strike against the organised smuggling of gold, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), carried out coordinated operations in Kolkata and Agartala, and seized aprrox. 17 kg foreign origin gold valued cumulatively at Rs. 25 crore (approx. ), and arrested 10 persons in connection with the case.”In Kolkata, DRI officials busted a smuggling syndicate that was allegedly attempting to bring 11.6 kg of gold from Thailand through Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. Seven people, including a woman, were arrested in the operation. The seized gold is estimated to be worth around Rs 17 crore.According to the ministry, the Kolkata operation exposed an organised network involved in trafficking foreign-origin gold into India through air routes.”On 12.06.26 in Kolkata, DRI busted a smuggling syndicate while they were attempting to smuggle 11.6 kg of gold from Thailand through Kolkata airport. Seven persons, including one woman, has been arrested in the case. The estimated value of seized gold is Rs. 17 crore approx. ,” the statement said.In a separate operation on the same day, DRI officers in Agartala seized around 5.1 kg of foreign-origin gold valued at approximately Rs 8 crore. Authorities said the consignment had been smuggled through the Tripura sector of the Indo-Bangladesh border.Three people were arrested in connection with the Agartala case. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), leading to the interception of the smuggled gold and the apprehension of those allegedly involved.According to the press release, “On the same day in Agartala, DRI seized around 5.1 kg foreign-origin gold, valued at approximately Rs 8 crore (approx. ), and smuggled through Tripura sector of Indo-Bangladesh border. NEW DELHI: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized around 17 kg of foreign-origin gold worth approximately Rs 25 crore in coordinated operations in Kolkata and Agartala, arresting 10 people and dealing a major blow to organised gold smuggling networks, the finance ministry said on Saturday.The seizures were made on June 12 in two separate operations targeting smuggling routes through an international airport and the Indo-Bangladesh border.In a press release, the ministry said, “In a major strike against the organised smuggling of gold, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), carried out coordinated operations in Kolkata and Agartala, and seized aprrox. 17 kg foreign origin gold valued cumulatively at Rs. 25 crore (approx. ), and arrested 10 persons in connection with the case.”In Kolkata, DRI officials busted a smuggling syndicate that was allegedly attempting to bring 11.6 kg of gold from Thailand through Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. Seven people, including a woman, were arrested in the operation. The seized gold is estimated to be worth around Rs 17 crore.According to the ministry, the Kolkata operation exposed an organised network involved in trafficking foreign-origin gold into India through air routes.”On 12.06.26 in Kolkata, DRI busted a smuggling syndicate while they were attempting to smuggle 11.6 kg of gold from Thailand through Kolkata airport. Seven persons, including one woman, has been arrested in the case. The estimated value of seized gold is Rs. 17 crore approx. ,” the statement said.In a separate operation on the same day, DRI officers in Agartala seized around 5.1 kg of foreign-origin gold valued at approximately Rs 8 crore. Authorities said the consignment had been smuggled through the Tripura sector of the Indo-Bangladesh border.Three people were arrested in connection with the Agartala case. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), leading to the interception of the smuggled gold and the apprehension of those allegedly involved.According to the press release, “On the same day in Agartala, DRI seized around 5.1 kg foreign-origin gold, valued at approximately Rs 8 crore (approx. ), and smuggled through Tripura sector of Indo-Bangladesh border. NEW DELHI: 11 Indian sailors were convicted by a Nigerian court in a cocaine trafficking case on Saturday, while the merchant vessel on which they served has been ordered to pay .3 million in restitution to the Nigerian government.”Nigeria is no longer a safe corridor for cocaine or any other illicit substance,” the NDLEA statement read, PTI reported.The sailors were arrested about six months ago by operatives of Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over allegations that 31.5 kilograms of cocaine had been smuggled into the country from the Marshall Islands through the Apapa seaport in Lagos, according to an agency statement issued on Thursday.Justice Joseph Chukwujekwu Aneke convicted the ship’s master and 10 crew members under provisions of the NDLEA Act. In addition to the vessel’s .3 million penalty, the court directed the three principal officers to pay USD 100,000 each, while the remaining crew members were ordered to pay ,000 each. Photo credit: ANI DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami today conducted an on-site inspection of the preparations for the upcoming International Kayaking and Canoeing Championship to be held in the Gadarpur area of Udham Singh Nagar district, according to a press release.During his visit, the CM reviewed various arrangements related to the event, including facilities being provided to athletes, security measures, technical infrastructure, transportation, accommodation, and other essential preparations.The chief minister directed concerned officials to ensure that all preparations for the successful conduct of this international-level competition are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with prescribed standards. He emphasised that athletes, coaches, referees, and participants arriving from across India and abroad should not face any inconvenience, and instructed all departments to work in close coordination.During the inspection, CM Dhami also experienced water sports activities himself and remarked that Uttarakhand possesses immense potential for adventure sports. He stated that the state’s natural landscape is highly suitable for water sports, mountain sports, and other adventure activities. The government, he added, is continuously working towards expanding sports facilities and developing modern sports infrastructure.CM Dhami said that the state government’s objective is to establish Uttarakhand as a nationally and internationally recognised sporting destination. To achieve this, efforts are being made to provide athletes with better training, facilities, and opportunities, while also encouraging the organisation of large-scale sporting events. He noted that international competitions provide a valuable platform for young athletes to showcase their talent and inspire them to excel at the global level.He further stated that such events not only promote sporting activities but also contribute significantly to tourism, local businesses, employment generation, and economic growth in the state. These initiatives will strengthen Uttarakhand’s identity as a leading adventure tourism destination and attract visitors from India and abroad to experience both its natural beauty and sporting opportunities.The chief minister added that the state government is working at multiple levels to promote sports among the youth and make sports accessible to every section of society.
