Mallikarjun Kharge extends support to Telangana CM Revanth Reddy NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday criticised the Centre over the reported cancellation of Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s proposed US tour, alleging that travel permissions were being granted selectively.Kharge said chief ministers visit countries such as the US and UK to engage with the Indian diaspora and explore investment opportunities for their states. Bihar job aspirants detained after clash with police during Lok Bhavan march. Photo credit: ANI NEW DELHI: Police detained several job aspirants in Patna on Saturday after a protest march towards Lok Bhavan turned tense. Demonstrators clashed with security personnel while demanding greater transparency in government recruitment.A large number of aspirants took part in the march, which was stopped near R-Golumber after police put up barricades, officials said.A scuffle broke out when protesters tried to breach the barricades, following which security personnel used “mild force” to disperse them. Several protesters were subsequently detained, they said.City SP (Central) Mamta Kalyani told news agency PTI, “Adequate forces have been deployed to handle any situation.”The protesters are seeking adherence to UGC rules for professor appointments, a higher age limit, a single-tier BPSC TRE-4 exam and a level playing field for Hindi-medium candidates, among other demands.Guest faculty members of universities in Bihar and PhD holders have been protesting for over a fortnight, seeking implementation of UGC Regulation 2018 in the appointment of assistant professors, raising the maximum age limit for applicants to 55 years, regularisation of assistant professor appointments and implementation of a domicile policy.The protestors have also sought the resignation of higher education minister Sanjay Singh Tiger and additional chief secretary Dipak Kumar Singh, who held a meeting with the demonstrators a few days ago to sort out the matter.The latest protest comes a day after leader of opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, met job aspirants protesting in Patna and extended the RJD’s support to their demands.“Toying with the future of students is unacceptable. All of us will fight this battle together and uproot this incompetent government,” he said.Yadav said, “We stand in support of all the students and job aspirants protesting here. We have repeatedly urged the government to fulfil their demands. Bihar job aspirants detained after clash with police during Lok Bhavan march. Photo credit: ANI NEW DELHI: Police detained several job aspirants in Patna on Saturday after a protest march towards Lok Bhavan turned tense. Demonstrators clashed with security personnel while demanding greater transparency in government recruitment.A large number of aspirants took part in the march, which was stopped near R-Golumber after police put up barricades, officials said.A scuffle broke out when protesters tried to breach the barricades, following which security personnel used “mild force” to disperse them. Several protesters were subsequently detained, they said.City SP (Central) Mamta Kalyani told news agency PTI, “Adequate forces have been deployed to handle any situation.”The protesters are seeking adherence to UGC rules for professor appointments, a higher age limit, a single-tier BPSC TRE-4 exam and a level playing field for Hindi-medium candidates, among other demands.Guest faculty members of universities in Bihar and PhD holders have been protesting for over a fortnight, seeking implementation of UGC Regulation 2018 in the appointment of assistant professors, raising the maximum age limit for applicants to 55 years, regularisation of assistant professor appointments and implementation of a domicile policy.The protestors have also sought the resignation of higher education minister Sanjay Singh Tiger and additional chief secretary Dipak Kumar Singh, who held a meeting with the demonstrators a few days ago to sort out the matter.The latest protest comes a day after leader of opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, met job aspirants protesting in Patna and extended the RJD’s support to their demands.“Toying with the future of students is unacceptable. All of us will fight this battle together and uproot this incompetent government,” he said.Yadav said, “We stand in support of all the students and job aspirants protesting here. We have repeatedly urged the government to fulfil their demands. International travelers will soon need e-boarding passes on smartphones for immigration clearance. Physical boarding passes will no longer be stamped by immigration authorities from September one. This change aims to streamline the process and reduce passenger inconvenience. A pilot project is also underway to eliminate immigration stamping for Indian passport holders. The Bureau of Immigration is implementing these modernization efforts across airports. He is treating the legislative assembly like a cinema set and delivering punch dialogues. As far as we are concerned, whether we win or lose, we are people who remain deeply connected with the day-to-day lives of the people,” MK Stalin said.Stalin’s remarks came as the DMK executive meeting also focused on changes to the party’s organisational structure, including measures aimed at bringing more young people into key positions.Stalin says election defeat is not permanent setbackAddressing the party’s recent electoral defeat, Stalin said the DMK had lost an election but should not view the result as a permanent setback.”Let us consider this as an opportunity we have been given to plan the future of the party. Instead of examining each constituency individually, identifying shortcomings and simply replacing people, I decided that we need to undertake a comprehensive self-assessment,” he said.DMK sets age and term limits for party postsThe executive meeting passed a series of resolutions aimed at changing the party’s organisational structure and increasing the participation of younger members.The resolutions fixed the maximum age for a Branch Committee Secretary at 45 years.
