SRINAGAR: J&K police seized an AK-47 rifle from the personal locker of a doctor once posted at government medical college in Anantnag during a search of the campus following his arrest Thursday for his alleged role in putting up posters supporting Pakistan-backed banned outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed in Srinagar.Dr Adeel Majeed Rather served at the college as a senior resident until October 24, 2024, and was employed at a private hospital in UP’s Saharanpur when he was arrested. Police sources said Saturday that the rifle was found during a sweep of the Anantnag campus in the presence of a magistrate. Officers have also gathered hospital access logs and CCTV footage.A Saharanpur court has granted a transit remand for the doctor’s transfer to J&K for questioning. Police sources said another doctor has been detained in the case.A case has been registered under Sections 7/25 of the Arms Act and multiple sections of UAPA.
