Shubman Gill joins David Warner, KL Rahul to enter exclusive IPL club after another fifty vs CSK
Shubman Gill became only the third captain in Indian Premier League history to score 600 or more runs in back-to-back seasons during Gujarat Titans’ match against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.Gill reached the milestone during his 64-run knock off 37 balls as Gujarat Titans posted 229/4 in their final league-stage match of IPL 2026.In IPL 2025, Gill had scored 650 runs in 15 matches for Gujarat Titans. With his 616 runs so far this season, he joined David Warner and KL Rahul in the list of captains with back-to-back 600-run IPL seasons.Warner was the first captain to achieve the feat, scoring 848 runs in 17 matches in IPL 2016 and 641 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2017 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.KL Rahul scored 670 runs in 14 matches as Punjab Kings captain in IPL 2020 and followed it with 626 runs in 13 matches in IPL 2021. He later scored 616 runs in 15 matches while leading Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022.Gill’s innings also helped Gujarat Titans continue their successful batting formula, with the top-order doing most of the scoring once again.Sai Sudharsan top-scored with 84 off 53 balls, while Jos Buttler remained unbeaten on 57 off 27 balls.Gill and Sudharsan gave GT a quick start on a red-soil pitch. Gill attacked from the beginning, while Sudharsan settled in before increasing the scoring rate after the powerplay.Gill reached his fifty in 23 balls with two sixes off Noor Ahmad and also crossed 6000 T20 runs during the innings.Sudharsan later completed his fifth successive IPL fifty off 35 balls and joined a list featuring Virender Sehwag, Warner and Buttler.The 125-run partnership between Gill and Sudharsan also helped them equal the IPL record for most 100-run partnerships, alongside Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers with 10 century stands.Gill and Sudharsan also recorded their seventh 100-plus partnership together, setting a new IPL record.
