NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday intensified his attack on the Centre over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak row, demanding the removal of Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.Taking to X, Rahul Gandhi said, “Twenty-two lakh NEET kids have been cheated. Yet Modi ji isn’t uttering a single word. Remove Dharmendra Pradhan ji right now, or take responsibility yourself.”“Modi ji, SACK Dharmendra Pradhan ji NOW,” the Congress leader added.The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Tuesday cancelled NEET-UG 2026, held on May 3, after investigators found evidence that several questions similar to those in the examination paper had been circulated before the test. The government later handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), while the examination will now be re-conducted on June 21.The cancellation has affected nearly 23 lakh aspirants and marks the first time the entire NEET-UG examination has been scrapped since the NTA took over conducting the test in 2019. In 2024, the exam was partially re-conducted for 1,563 students following discrepancies in marks.Meanwhile, the CBI on Saturday arrested another alleged mastermind in the case. Referring to the death of a 21-year-old student in Uttar Pradesh who allegedly died by suicide after the exam cancellation, he said, “These youngsters didn’t lose to the exams; they were killed by a corrupt system. Tamil Nadu CM Vijay NEW DELHI: The Tamil Nadu Lok Bhavan on Saturday announced the portfolio allocation for the newly formed Tamil Nadu Cabinet led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, days after the actor-turned-politician took oath following his party’s landmark victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.According to the official notification, portfolios were assigned to 10 ministers, including Vijay, who retained key departments being home, police, and public administration. The allocation marks the latest major administrative development of the new Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government after it ended decades of alternating rule between the DMK and AIADMK in the state.Vijay was sworn in as Chief Minister earlier this month after TVK emerged as the single largest party and secured support from alliance partners to form the government. Tamil Nadu CM Vijay NEW DELHI: The Tamil Nadu Lok Bhavan on Saturday announced the portfolio allocation for the newly formed Tamil Nadu Cabinet led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, days after the actor-turned-politician took oath following his party’s landmark victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.According to the official notification, portfolios were assigned to 10 ministers, including Vijay, who retained key departments being home, police, and public administration. The allocation marks the latest major administrative development of the new Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government after it ended decades of alternating rule between the DMK and AIADMK in the state.Vijay was sworn in as Chief Minister earlier this month after TVK emerged as the single largest party and secured support from alliance partners to form the government. Representational image NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a probe into allegations that foreign nationals of Indian origin “deceitfully” voted in the April 23 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, an official said on Saturday. The ECI’s action follows a report submitted by the police after ten foreign nationals were arrested while attempting to board flights from the Chennai and Madurai airports, PTI reported. According to the police report, airport authorities grew suspicious after noticing indelible ink marks on the index fingers of the passengers and alerted the police. “They had used fraudulent Indian ID documents to cast the votes. The indelible ink was noticed on their fingers when they attempted to fly out,” a police official told PTI. The accused were arrested in nine cases for allegedly casting votes in the assembly polls. Police inquiries revealed that the individuals were from Sri Lanka, the United Kingdom, and Canada. As per ECI rules, an overseas elector must be an Indian citizen who has not acquired citizenship of another country. Those who have renounced Indian citizenship are barred from voting.
