NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday said that no one can blame the pilot-in-command of the Air India Boeing Dreamliner that crashed moments after taking off in Ahmedabad and killing 260 people. The apex court told the 91-year-old father that his son, Sumeet Sabharwal, is not to be blamed and “you should not carry the burden on yourself.”The bench of justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi added that, “There is no insinuation against the pilot even in the preliminary probe report.”It also issued a notice to Centre and directorate general of civil aviation (DGCA) on the plea of the father of pilot Sumeet Sabharwal.The statement from SC came as it was hearing a petition by Pushkaraj Sabharwal, whose son Sumeet Sabharwal was the pilot-in-command of the Air India flight. While hearing the plea, Justice Surya Kant told the father, “This crash was extremely unfortunate, but you should not carry this burden that your son is being blamed.”The petitions were filed after aircraft accident investigation bureau (AAIB) in its preliminary report mentioned that the fuel supply to both engines was cut off shortly after takeoff. NEW DELHI: A video showing a large mob allegedly parading and assaulting a woman in Bihar’s Nalanda district went viral on social media on Tuesday, triggering a sharp political backlash. The opposition targeted the ruling NDA alliance over “collapsed” law and order in the state, calling it the “beginning of brutality akin to Manipur” .The incident, which took place in the Noor Sarai area a few days ago, came to light after the purported video surfaced online.Leader of the opposition in Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Yadav condemned the incident, calling it a “shameful incident in the home district of chief minister Nitish Kumar”.”It was a gang rape attempt. Those who misbehaved with the woman tore off her clothes. The incident presents a scary picture of the collapsed law and order in Bihar,” he alleged.RJD also took a swipe at the JDU government on social media, posting, “Nitish Kumar’s so-called ‘good governance’ is at its peak!” The Bihar Congress intensified its attack, drawing parallels with the Manipur incident where two women were paraded naked by a mob, and said the Nalanda case reflected a similar pattern of brutality.”Even before becoming the chief minister of BJP, the beginning of brutality akin to Manipur has occurred from Nitish Kumar’s home district in Bihar!” the party said.The Congress party echoed similar concerns, stating that the “woman was subjected to utterly disgusting treatment. The thugs publicly tore the woman’s clothes and made a video of it, which they then spread virally.” “This incident is a stain on society. Those responsible should receive the harshest of harsh punishments. NEW DELHI: A video showing a large mob allegedly parading and assaulting a woman in Bihar’s Nalanda district went viral on social media on Tuesday, triggering a sharp political backlash. The opposition targeted the ruling NDA alliance over “collapsed” law and order in the state, calling it the “beginning of brutality akin to Manipur” .The incident, which took place in the Noor Sarai area a few days ago, came to light after the purported video surfaced online.Leader of the opposition in Bihar assembly, Tejashwi Yadav condemned the incident, calling it a “shameful incident in the home district of chief minister Nitish Kumar”.”It was a gang rape attempt. Those who misbehaved with the woman tore off her clothes. The incident presents a scary picture of the collapsed law and order in Bihar,” he alleged.RJD also took a swipe at the JDU government on social media, posting, “Nitish Kumar’s so-called ‘good governance’ is at its peak!” The Bihar Congress intensified its attack, drawing parallels with the Manipur incident where two women were paraded naked by a mob, and said the Nalanda case reflected a similar pattern of brutality.”Even before becoming the chief minister of BJP, the beginning of brutality akin to Manipur has occurred from Nitish Kumar’s home district in Bihar!” the party said.The Congress party echoed similar concerns, stating that the “woman was subjected to utterly disgusting treatment. The thugs publicly tore the woman’s clothes and made a video of it, which they then spread virally.” “This incident is a stain on society. NEW DELHI: Many parts of the country may not be hotter than usual during April-June summer season due to normal to ‘below normal’ maximum (day) temperatures but most parts in east, northeast and coastal Peninsular India are likely to get two to eight days of extended heatwave duration, the IMD said on Tuesday.“Above-normal heatwave days are expected over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Tamil Nadu and northern parts of Karnataka during April to June,” said IMD’s chief Mrutyunjay Mohapatra while releasing seasonal outlook for the three-month period.The forecast map, released by the Met department, shows additional heatwave days even in Delhi-NCR but the occurrence is most likely to be confined in May-June as April in many parts of India, including northwest, may experience above-normal rainfall due to prevailing and predicted western disturbances.Heatwave is considered if the maximum temperature of a weather station reaches at least 40 degree Celsius or more for plains and at least 30 degree C or more for hilly regions. Many parts of plains normally get three to five days of heatwave during April-June period.The most parts of the country which may get below normal temperatures during the days are, however, likely to have warmer nights. “During the season (April-June), above-normal minimum (night) temperatures are likely over most parts of the country except some regions of Maharashtra and Telangana where normal to below normal minimum temperatures are likely,” said Mohapatra.Though the IMD chief preferred not to say anything about the monsoon season at this juncture, the latest forecasts from the Monsoon Mission Climate Forecast System (MMCFS) suggest that El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) neutral conditions are most likely to continue during April to June.“Thereafter, the probability of development of El Niño conditions increases gradually,” said IMD — an indication that its adverse impact on rainfall may hit later part of monsoon season during Aug-Sept. IMD is expected to come out with its first stage forecast on this year’s monsoon rainfall sometime around mid-April.IMD data shows as many as 45 human deaths due to extreme weather events across many states in March.
