‘Khoon ka badla khoon’: Woman ‘killed’ within 90 days of marriage in Greater Noida by husband, in-laws over property
GREATER NOIDA: The Greater Noida police have arrested a man in connection with the mysterious death of a 22-year-old woman at her in-laws’ house in the Dadri area. According to police, the accused has been identified as Kannu, a resident of Dadri.The family alleged that she was murdered by her husband and in-laws over property worth crores. The woman died barely three months after her marriage.The deceased was identified as Monika Nagar, reportedly entered into a court marriage with Anuj Chauhan on February 17 after the two had been in a relationship. Police registered a case against the victim’s husband Anuj, neighbour Kannu and some other people in the matter. The postmortem report did not reveal the cause of death, following which the viscera was preserved for further examination. Jitendra Kumar Singh, SHO of Dadri, said that Kannu was arrested on Saturday in connection with the case. During the investigation, police found that Kannu had gone to an isolated plot where Anuj was allegedly trying to set her body on fire. Police also said Monika had been living with her mother in a rented house before marrying Anuj. They added that both families were aware of and had agreed to the marriage. Police further said that Monika informed her brother that her husband and in-laws were assaulting her, following which her family reached the house and alleged that she had been killed. Renu Nagar, the deceased’s mother, said on May 7 that she was in Meerut when her daughter called her around 2.50 pm and told her that Monika’s husband and in-laws were assaulting her. She said she immediately left with her relatives and reached Anuj’s house between 5 pm and 6 pm. “We saw that Anuj, his family members, and Kannu, a neighbour, were putting Monika’s body into a black Fortuner. We chased them and, after some time, tried to stop them near Galaxy Hospital in Dadri, but they did not stop. Instead, they allegedly tried to run over me and my nephew with the vehicle before escaping,” she said. “Around 9 pm, I received a phone call from the police informing me that Monika’s body had been found with burn injuries,” she added. “Khoon ka badla khoon. I request the Uttar Pradesh chief minister to kill the murderers in an encounter. Only then will I get justice,” she said.
