AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal accused BJP of using central agencies for political purposes alleging repeated ED action in Punjab was aimed at intimidating state leadership. Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar accused Mann’s govt of shielding corruption.ED has been active in Punjab for well over a month, during which seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs switched to BJP, including two who had been searched by the agency.Sources said ED searched other addresses in Delhi, Gurgaon and Chandigarh, including the premises of Hampton Sky Realty Ltd, promoted by Arora’s family. The company issued a statement that it “reposes complete faith in its established facts, in the legal and constitutional framework of the country, and in the wisdom of the Hon’ble Judiciary”. Its statement said when the “supplier-side” fraud came to its knowledge, “the company itself approached the police as the complainant” by lodging an FIR (on May 17, 2025) at a Ludhiana police station and that the company itself was a “victim”. It added that there was no “current loss to the govt exchequer” on account of its transactions.Arora’s arrest followed an ED search of his official residence in Sector 2, Chandigarh.This is the third time this year that Arora has faced ED action. It first raided Arora’s premises in connection with a money laundering probe involving alleged misuse of industrial land for residential projects in Ludhiana. At the time, he was a Rajya Sabha MP. SRINAGAR: For nearly two decades, adventure tourism transformed Kashmir’s mountains into a magnet for high-end domestic tourists and foreign visitors. Trekkers crossed alpine meadows, glacier-fed valleys and mountaineers climbed Kolahoi peak, turning the sector into one of the Valley’s fastest-growing tourism industries. But for the past year, it is dead,” Rouf Tramboo, president of the winter games association and well-known mountaineer of the Valley, said.From his office overlooking Dal Lake, Tramboo said the govt promoted trekking in a big way in the past six years, encouraging local entrepreneurs to invest heavily in camping equipment, trekking logistics and mountaineering infrastructure. A tourism department official said the govt opened up more trekking routes in the Valley after Article 370’s abrogation, taking the number to 75. Even forest huts were made available for visitors.Over time, tourists streamed in, especially from Southeast Asian countries, who were less affected by security-related travel advisories than those from Europe and the US. “Our trekking season is from June to Oct. With the prolonged closure (after the Pahalgam attack), we have effectively lost this year,” he said.Key routes included Kashmir Great Lakes Trek — a 70km trail through alpine lakes, glacial streams, meadows and mountain passes — Kolahoi Glacier Trek, Tarsar Marsar Trek, Tosamaidan-Yusmarg Trek and Dara-Pahalgam, an offbeat high-altitude trail linking Srinagar with the lush valleys of Pahalgam. Dara-Sonamarg trail and the Kashmir-Ladakh route, through Warwan Valley in Kishtwar, also drew enthusiasts.The Great Lakes trek, which climbs to nearly 13,800feet at Harmukh Pass, was the most popular. Aarif, popularly known as Aarif Mountaineer, who runs Cliffhangers India, an adventure tourism company in Kashmir, said the Great Lakes trek led to the opening of other routes.In 2024, Aarif said his company took at least two groups every week on the Great Lakes trek, generating employment for guides, porters, cooks, ponnywallas and camping staff across villages along the route. Tramboo said his company would engage nearly 2,000 to 2,500 horses every year.“We would even arrange south Indian food. I had more than 45 staffers and we would hire hundreds of horsemen. Now we are only a five-member team. The Great Lakes Trek was safer as it is surrounded by army camps. We want at least this to be reopened for the industry to survive,” Aarif said.As the slump deepened, Aari shifted base to Manali. Tramboo now takes trekkers to Ladakh. “I had the option to move out but others are not so lucky. NEW DELHI: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday conducted searches at 17 locations in Mumbai in connection with three cases registered against Reliance ADA Group companies, Reliance Telecom Limited, Reliance Commercial Finance Limited and Reliance Home Finance Limited and their directors.According to CBI, the searches were carried out at the residential premises of directors of the companies and offices of intermediary firms allegedly used for diversion of bank funds. The searches were conducted on the basis of warrants issued on May 8 by a special CBI court in Mumbai.CBI said incriminating documents were seized during the searches. Investigators also found that multiple intermediary companies were allegedly operating from the same address.The agency said it had registered seven cases against the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Group in recent months based on complaints filed by various public sector banks and LIC in connection with alleged frauds involving thousands of crores of rupees. The total alleged loss in these cases is Rs 27,337 crore, according to CBI.The CBI had earlier conducted searches at 14 locations after registering the cases. Two senior executives of Reliance Communications D Vishwanath, joint president, and Anil Kalya, vice president were arrested on April 20 in connection with the investigation. Both are currently in judicial custody.
