The ‘Harry Met Sally’ actor spoke about Rob Riener and their bond during his appearance on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. He shared that he feels a sudden urge to call his late friend as soon as something good happens in his life. “There are so many moments that when something good happens, or [I think] ‘Isn’t that crazy?’ I want to pick up the phone and call [him] and say, ‘Did you see it?’ Because that’s what we would do,” the 78-year-old actor said.Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, lost their life in a suspected double homicide in December. Remembering the filmmaker, Billy continued to describe him as “hilarious, devoted, opinionated in the best way, fighting for the truth for our country.”He added that he “could talk about everything” to his ‘Harry Met Sally’ director, adding, “He was an uncle to my kids.”

Reflecting on Crystal and Reiner’s friendship, the host acknowledged that it must be hard for Billy to speak about his beloved pal during the Oscar tribute that happened last month. This left Billy emotional, struggling to find the right words for a couple of seconds.“No, I’m good. It was shortly after the tragedy. We had spent the night before together, talking about our careers together,” Crystal said before revealing, “We were talking about the movie business and how it’s changed, and how people don’t go to theaters like they used to. And we talked about the fact that you can’t control how a movie is gonna do.”Their last words were about work, cinema, and some great piece of advice. “What you can control is the experience of making it. And the experiences that we had together and that he had with the casts of his other movies were so extraordinary,” he mentioned before adding, “He (Rob Reiner) said that’s something you always have, hits are great to have, but it’s the people that you hold on to.”

Recalling the moment, Crystal said, “If I can get the casts of those movies together to walk out with me, that [would] have made him really smile. So I got in touch with all of them.”
