It is given to members of state and union territory police, Central Armed Police Forces, Central Police Organisations, intelligence units, special branches, and forensic departments across the country.The medal is announced every year on October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.India launched Operation Sindoor in May this year after the Pahalgam terror attack. The armed forces struck terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir through precision strikes.
