. DARJEELING: Prashant Tamang (43), a singer from Darjeeling, died of cardiac arrest at his Delhi home on Sunday. Prashant felt unwell around 6am. His family took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. He had been living in Delhi’s Janakpuri with his wife Geeta Thapa and their three-year-old daughter, Ariah Tamang. Following his father’s death in an accident, Prashant took his place in Kolkata police as a constable. Due to his musical skills, he joined the orchestra of the city police. “He had gone to Dubai for a show and returned on Dec 27. He travelled to Arunachal Pradesh on Jan 7 for another show and was back in Delhi the next day. We spoke over a video call that day. He sent me videos of his show and appeared to be in good health,” said sister Anupama Gurung. Anupama said the family would bring the body back to Darjeeling for last rites. Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and BJP’s Darjeeling MP Raju Bista mourned the death. Prashant’s victory in a reality show turned him into a powerful symbol of cultural pride in the hills, reshaping the socio-political landscape of Darjeeling and contributing to the rise of Bimal Gurung as a prominent political figure. NSA Doval NEW DELHI: National security adviser Ajit Doval, widely referred to as India’s ‘spymaster or James Bond’, has revealed that he does not use a mobile-phone or internet in his day-to-day work. When asked if he used mobile or internet for routine work, the NSA replied, “It is true that I do not use internet. I also do not use a phone, except for family matters or for speaking to people in other countries, which is necessary. I manage my work that way. There are many other means of communication as well, and some additional methods have to be arranged that people are not aware of.” He said this while addressing the inaugural session of Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026 at Bharat Mandapam here Saturday. Doval, who has been NSA since 2014, said it is important to take the right and farsighted decisions at the utmost time, particularly for the youth. However, the former IB director advised it is important to think about what “the next two steps will be before a person takes the first step”. He said India needs to strengthen itself as “we had a painful history of attacks and subjugation”. “We were a very advanced civilisation. We never broke anyone’s temples. We did not attack any foreigners, even when the rest of the world was weak, we did not understand the threats to our security. And, so history taught us a lesson. It is important that we remember that lesson because if the youth forget it, then it would be tragic for the country,” the NSA said. “Revenge is not a good word, but it can be a huge force. We have to avenge our history and take this country to the point where it is great again not just in terms of border security, but economy, social development, every aspect,” he said. The NSA spoke about the importance of decision-making in leadership and nation-building. “One common thing between when I was young and how I am today is the ability to make decisions. Whether you realise it or not, decision-making always walks with you. Youth take small and big decisions in daily life, and as you grow, these small decisions add up to big ones,” he said. “Napoleon once said, ‘I am not afraid of 1,000 lions led by a sheep, but I am afraid of 1,000 sheep led by a lion’. That is how important leadership is,” he explained. Expressing confidence in India’s future, Doval said, “India will be developed. The level to which our country has been brought under PM Modi, it will soon achieve the goal of being a developed nation. The real question is – who will lead the nation towards that development? This is the first time DMK has formally rejected the demand, which has gained traction over the past several months. Periyasamy, DMK deputy general secretary and rural administration minister, admitted that Congress was within its rights to put forth the demand but made it clear that CM M K Stalin wasn’t inclined to accept. “Tamil Nadu has always had single-party rule. The CM is firm on this,” Periyasamy said. Even within TN Cong, some do not press for a coalition government The remarks come amid the chorus for powersharing growing louder. Sections of Congress, including MP Manickam Tagore, have stressed that no party can win elections on their own in Tamil Nadu and the time has come for a discussion on coalition govts. Tagore had said the debate was no longer just about winning power but also about sharing it. Although DMK has credited its alliance for its successive electoral victories, the party has consistently resisted power-sharing demands. JAMMU: Security forces picked up movement of suspected drones in several forward areas along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts of J&K on Sunday evening, officials said. All flying objects came from the Pakistan side, and returned after hovering over Indian territory for a few minutes, they said. According to officials, security forces have launched a search operation on the ground after noticing the suspected drone activity in the forward areas. In a related development, security forces launched a massive search operation after intel agencies detected satellite communication by suspected terrorists near the IB in Rajpura area of Jammu’s Kanachak sector Sunday. Earlier on Friday night, security forces recovered an arms consignment, allegedly dropped by a drone that originated in Pakistan, in Paloora village of Ghagwal near the IB in Samba district. The recovery included two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds and a grenade, they added. In another development, security forces launched a massive search operation after intelligence agencies detected satellite communication by suspected terrorists near the IB in Jammu’s Kanachak sector on Sunday. The communication was traced to a Thuraya satellite device around 3pm, and its GPS location was tracked, said officials. “Soon after, a joint team of the Army, J&K Police’s SOG, BSF, and CRPF, cordoned off the area and launched a search operation,” an official said. While nothing suspicious had been discovered so far, further combing was under way, officials said.
