Amit Shah PUDUCHERRY: Union home minister Amit Shah took a dig at the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of lying repeatedly about the India-US trade deal. Addressing a public meeting at Karaikal, Puducherry’s enclave, 140km south of its headquarters, during his two-day visit to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Shah brushed aside the opposition charges and maintained that the interests of the farmers and fishermen were “protected 100%” in the agreement. He said the farmers’ interests were compromised only during the previous UPA govt. “Rahul Gandhi’s policy is to lie, lie loudly and repeat it,” he said. Shah paid tributes to the CRPF personnel martyred in the Pulwama terror attack. He said the previous Congress-led UPA govt had not retaliated strongly to the terror attacks, but the NDA govt led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi carried out Balakot airstrikes targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan. Shah complimented the NDA govt led by All India NR Congress (AINRC) founder-president and chief minister N Rangasamy of curbing corruption, ensuring political stability and strengthening Puducherry’s autonomy. He charged that the previous Congress govt led by former chief minister V Narayanasamy of turning Puducherry into an ‘ATM for the Gandhi family’. He said the previous govt had sold UG, PG and diploma medical seats, including those reserved for SC and ST candidates, to rich people. The NDA secured 44% vote share in the 2021 assembly polls and the alliance “aims at securing 60% and winning 24 out of 30 seats in Puducherry in the ensuing polls,” he added. Shah later met the office-bearers of the BJP party’s Puducherry unit and chaired a meeting with Rangasamy, election in-charges and state in-charges at Karaikal in the afternoon, marking the commencement of seat-sharing talks.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Valentine’s day wishes, messages and quotes !End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosRahul Gandhi Flags Dhaka Zero Duty Edge In US Trade Deal; Piyush Goyal Mounts Strong RebuttalDeadly Joyride: Teen Driving SUV At 160 Kmph Triggers Chain Crash In Bengaluru, 6 Students DeadEU Holds Back Laughter As US Credits Itself On Stopping India Pakistan War, Questions UN On KashmirPM Modi Makes Historic Landing At Dibrugarh ELF, Rafale And Sukhoi Jets Mark India’s Strategic PushPM Modi Opens Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, Rs 3000 Crore Bridge Cuts Guwahati Travel Time To 7 Minutes’Global South To Decide Next World Order’: Stubb And Rubio Signal Shift, Echoe India’s World View’New World Order Emerging, India Ready To Lead As Global Growth Engine’, Says PM Modi At ET SummitAll About Northeast’ First Emergency Landing Facility In Assam Which IAF Will Use During WarsIndian Nikhil Gupta Pleads Guilty Of Assassination Plot On Pannun, Sparks Fresh India-US TensionsFarmer Meet Video Sparks Row As Piyush Goyal, Shivraj Chouhan Counters Rahul Gandhi On US Trade Pact123Photostories5 famous global fabrics you didn’t know were originally IndianMaha Shivratri 2026: How to make Sabudana Tikki for evening snackingTop 5 real estate hotspots in Navi Mumbai driving investment and residential demand in 2026From Kapil Sharma to Krushna Abhishek- Richest Indian comedians and their net worthHow RERA ensures transparency in Real Estate transactionsThane Coastal Road-1: Rs 2,727-crore mega project crosses 50% mark, targets 2028 completionChef Sanjeev Kapoor’s homemade innovative pizza recipes that are a must tryUpcoming OTT movies and series releasing this week: ‘56 days’, ‘The Night Agent Season 3’, and more160kmph on 100kmph road: How a joyride ended in 7 fatalities in BengaluruMargot Robbie and Tom Ackerley’s love story: From ‘Suite Française’ to a happily ever after123Hot PicksIT Stocks CrashGold Silver PricesBangladesh Election ResultsTelangana Municipal Elections ResultsIncome Tax CalculatorPublic holidays February 2026Bank Holidays februaryTop TrendingPatrick MahomesBad BunnyJosh MorrisseyJutta LeerdamAuston MatthewsKayla NicoleAnthony JoshuaChris PaulDarron LeeKyle Busch Net Worth
