NEW DELHI: Heads are likely to roll in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) as the education ministry has initiated an internal crackdown over alleged irregularities in a controversial tender process for the board’s digital evaluation ecosystem which was found to have vulnerabilities.Explanations provided by the CBSE, so far, on the tender issue have not been found to be satisfactory, and accountability is now likely to be fixed at multiple levels inside the education board, according to ministry sources. “Detailed reports have been sought on awarding the contract to Hyderabad-based Coempt Edu Tech as part of the procurement process linked to the board’s ‘On Screen Marking (OSM)’ system as well as on the security gaps flagged in the re-evaluation portal. The ministry is taking action against those accountable. Responsibility will be determined,” a senior official said. Supreme Court (Image credit: ANI) NEW DELHI: Observing that pension is not a “bounty but an enforceable constitutional right” and a hard-earned benefit amassed by an employee by virtue of long and continuous service, the Supreme Court on Monday ruled that a temporary casual labourer in a govt department would be entitled to pensionary benefits on superannuation even in the absence of regularisation of the job.It took a widow from Bihar, whose husband worked as a casual worker in a post office for three decades, to fight an 18-year legal battle through three layers of litigation – central administrative tribunal, Patna HC and SC – to get the pensionary benefit as the apex court rejected the Centre’s plea and passed an order in her favour. It refused to give credence to govt’s plea that it would cause a financial burden. “Pension is not a matter of grace dependent upon the financial convenience of the employer, but a deferred wage earned through long years of service,” it said.A bench of Justices Sanjay Karol and A G Masih said employees who have rendered continuous and essential service over long periods cannot be denied benefits available to regular employees merely on account of nomenclature. NEW DELHI: Education ministry told a parliamentary committee on Monday that “many hands and many cities” present many chances to leak question papers in pen-and-paper exams, while Computer-Based Test (CBT) takes out this “weakest link” and will serve as the foundation for computer-adaptive testing (CAT) along the lines of CRE and GMAT. In a presentation before the parliamentary panel on education headed by Digvijaya Singh of Congress, it was said that NTA has demonstrated that CBT can be administered on scale by successfully conducting JEE exams in multiple sessions since 2019, people in the know said.Hopeful of a fair retest as Modi himself is monitoring issue, says DigvijayaRemarks of Digvijaya Singh of Congress calling upon NTA to ensure a mishap-free re-test of NEET on June 21 while speaking of trust in PM Modi and the system triggered a row as Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, who is not a panel member, asserted that his senior colleague had not given any clean chit to Modi. A member of the panel said Singh made the reference in his concluding remarks on the overall discussion.Singh told TOI that he is rule-bound not to disclose details of the parliamentary panel meeting. NEW DELHI: Education ministry told a parliamentary committee on Monday that “many hands and many cities” present many chances to leak question papers in pen-and-paper exams, while Computer-Based Test (CBT) takes out this “weakest link” and will serve as the foundation for computer-adaptive testing (CAT) along the lines of CRE and GMAT. In a presentation before the parliamentary panel on education headed by Digvijaya Singh of Congress, it was said that NTA has demonstrated that CBT can be administered on scale by successfully conducting JEE exams in multiple sessions since 2019, people in the know said.Hopeful of a fair retest as Modi himself is monitoring issue, says DigvijayaRemarks of Digvijaya Singh of Congress calling upon NTA to ensure a mishap-free re-test of NEET on June 21 while speaking of trust in PM Modi and the system triggered a row as Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, who is not a panel member, asserted that his senior colleague had not given any clean chit to Modi. A member of the panel said Singh made the reference in his concluding remarks on the overall discussion.Singh told TOI that he is rule-bound not to disclose details of the parliamentary panel meeting. The committee will do its best to present its report before June 21, when his term in Rajya Sabha ends, he added.“As Modi himself is monitoring the issue, we are hopeful that the re-exam will be conducted fairly. If there is a leak again, it is his (PM’s) responsibility,” he said.The ministry said its proposals are in line with recommendations of the Radhakrishnan committee report. Computer-based test (CBT) can be scaled up to computer adaptive testing (CAT), where the difficulty level of questions adjusts according to a candidate’s performance.After it was forced to cancel NEET (UG) due to leak of questions, NTA has announced a re-examination on June 21. NEW DELHI: Fresh allegations of massive cybersecurity lapses, data exposure and administrative failures have deepened the controversy surrounding CBSE’s On Screen Marking (OSM) system, with activists now approaching National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for urgent intervention to protect students’ educational rights, amid continuing disrupti-ons in the board’s post-exam processes.The latest row erupted after independent developers and ethical hackers publicly claimed that sensitive stud-ent data, scanned answer sheets and question papers linked to CBSE’s digital evaluation infrastructure were exposed online because of serious security vulnerabilities. Android developer Sidharth posted on X: “Almost every single OnMark portal built by EduTek is fundamentally insecure, and CBSE is lying to you about the safety of student data. We found default passwords, URL-based RCEs, and raw MD5 hashes.
