Quote of the day by The Odyssey author Homer: “The difficulty is not so great to die for a friend as to find a friend worth dying for.” |

This line linked to Homer keeps showing up in articles about friendship and loyalty, usually pulled into modern writing without much surrounding context. It carries a heavy tone, but it is not really about drama or sacrifice in the usual sense. The sentence shifts attention away from heroic action and moves it towards something quieter,…

Quote of the day by Sigmund Freud: “The virtuous man contents himself with dreaming that which the wicked man does in actual life.”

Sigmund Freud (Credit: Bettmann/ Getty Images) Freud’s quote keeps appearing in online feeds, quote pages and short commentary columns, often stripped from any wider explanation. It travels well because it is short and slightly unsettling. There is no clean moral instruction inside it, only a comparison that feels unfinished. The line is usually presented as…

Representative image NEW DELHI: Starting next April, all car manufacturers will be required to perform fuel-efficiency and mileage tests for new vehicle models under two conditions: with the air-conditioning system turned on and with it turned off, according to a notification issued by the road transport ministry on Sunday. For existing models, manufacturers may be granted a few additional months to comply with the new testing requirements, TOI has learnt. The move is aimed at providing customers with more realistic and accurate mileage figures, which will improve transparency, helping buyers make better-informed purchasing decisions. The testing norms will apply to both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and electric vehicles (EVs). At present, car manufacturers in India declare fuel-efficiency figures based on tests conducted with the AC system switched off.Earlier, the ministry had proposed implementing the new testing regime from Oct this year. However, following consultations with the automobile industry, the revised timeline for new models has now been notified. Industry insiders said manufacturers have sought additional time for existing models, and the timeline for those vehicles is expected to be announced soon. After carrying out tests, car manufacturers and importers will be required to put the mileage for with and without AC switched on in the user manual of vehicles and on their website as well.Car manufacturers were citing European norms where only mileage without AC is taken into account, but Indian conditions are different and this has prompted govt to come up with the new norms.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideos’Apologise Immediately’: Nepal Opposition Rips Into PM Balen Shah Over India Border RemarkAfter Amit Shah Meeting, Annamalai Exit Speculation Grows As New Party Talk IntensifiesCBSE-Coempt Dispute Escalates Amid Conflict Of Interest Claims And Strong Denials’Even Hitler Did Not…’: Mamata Slams BJP Over ‘Police Raj’ In Bengal, Attack On Abhishek Banerjee’Cooker Only’ Audio Row Deepens Congress Rift As Zameer Denies Viral Recording Claims | WatchSanjay Singh Confronts Police Officials During Student Interaction Over Exam Paper LeaksMonkey Snatches ₹2 Lakh Bag In UP Court, Climbs Tree And Showers Currency Notes From AboveIndia-US Trade Deal Nears Finish Line, First Tranche May Be Signed Soon: Piyush GoyalTMC Expels Two MLAs, Ritabrata Banerjee And Sandipan Saha, Amid Signature Mismatch RowRahul Gandhi flags ‘phone-scanned’ answer sheets as CBSE-OSM tender row deepens123PhotostoriesKatrina Kaif’s post-pregnancy style era is here, and it starts with a killer black overcoatHollywood’s ugliest custody battles: From Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie to Rob Kardashian and Blac ChynaIs Anushka Sharma’s white ensemble RCB’s new lucky charm?
