Across Kerala, early trends in the 2026 Assembly election indicate a decisive shift in power, with the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) surging ahead and poised for a commanding return to government. The alliance is leading in over 100 of the 140 Assembly seats, comfortably crossing the majority mark, while the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) is trailing far behind, struggling to retain even 40 constituencies. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) remains a marginal player, leading in only a couple of seats. The trends point to strong anti-incumbency against the LDF government led by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who initially trailed in his Dharmadam stronghold before regaining the lead in later rounds. Puducherry assembly election results 2026 NEW DELHI: The Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) of Congress and DMK is set to fell short in its bid to form the government in Puducherry, as counting for the April 9 assembly elections was held on Monday. Despite a record voter turnout of 89.87% across the Union territory’s 30 constituencies, SPA candidates are currently leading only on three seats, while the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to become Puducherry’s first incumbent government to be re-elected since the Congress in 2006. This marks a setback for the SPA, which had hoped to return to power but was outperformed by the NDA led by chief Minister N Rangasamy of the All India NR Congress, a former Congress leader.
