ANI photo CHANDIGARH: A day after Inderpreet Singh, alias Parry, a one-time trusted aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was gunned down on a Chandigarh street, two audio clips, purportedly of Goldy Brar, Lawrence’s rival, were released Tuesday containing a threat to kill Lawrence to avenge the murder, intensifying fears of a gang war. While police are verifying the authenticity of the audios, Parry’s family says he was murdered because he wanted to quit crime. “He was acquitted in eight of the 12 cases against him. He got married on Nov 13 and wanted to start life afresh, leaving the life of crime behind. But the Lawrence gang was not happy with his decision. Parry’s unwillingness to be associated with Lawrence or any other gangster was the main reason behind his murder,” said a relative.“We are affluent. We don’t need his crime money,” added another relative.“Losing her newly-married son has sent Parry’s mother into a state of shock,” said Harneet Singh, Parry’s brother, an ASI with Punjab police. Parry’s father retired as a Punjab police inspector.Talking to TOI over the phone, Parry’s brother said Lawrence was a frequent visitor to their house, and would often stay overnight. Mourning his brother, he said, “My mother would feed Lawrence like a son and he repaid her love by killing Parry.”Recounting his last few hours, Parry’s kin said that on the day of the murder, he left to drop his bride somewhere around 4pm. When he returned, he received a call from one of his friends and left home again. He met some friends at a club in Sector 26 and that is when he received a call from Lawrence, who called him to the nearby timber market to discuss a “personal issue” and said his associates will accompany him, said his family. When he reached the designated spot, he was shot dead, they said.It tallies with what the audio clips say. A voice purportedly of Goldy claims Lawrence called Parry on the phone on Monday, congratulated him on his wedding and said he needed to discuss a personal matter. “He asked Parry to come to a place in Sector 26, saying some of his gang members would meet him there and it would be safe to talk on the phone. When Parry arrived to talk, he was murdered,” he says. The voice on the ‘Goldy’ audio clip then threatens Lawrence, saying, “No one in the world can save you now.”About the AuthorPawan TiwariPawan Tiwari is a Principal Correspondent and joined The Times of India in 2017. The Bombay high court has halted the announcement of first-phase municipal poll results, scheduled for December 3rd. Justices Anil Kilor and Rajnish Vyas ruled that releasing these outcomes prematurely could unfairly influence the second phase of voting on December 20th. The court mandated that all results be declared together on December 21st, ensuring electoral fairness and transparency. PTI photo NGAPUR: The Nagpur bench of Bombay high court on Tuesday restrained Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) from announcing the results of first phase of municipal council and nagar panchayat polls on Dec 3, a day after polling, on the grounds that it may “prematurely disclose public mood”, and influence the next round of voting scheduled for Dec 20.A division bench of Justices Anil Kilor and Rajnish Vyas ordered that entire counting process should be held only after the second phase, and all results must be announced together on Dec 21. The bench held that declaring the first phase results within 24 hours would compromise electoral fairness. “This may materially affect the results of polls on Dec 20. Then, it cannot be said elections on Dec 20 would be held in a fair and transparent manner,” it said. The court also prohibited publication or broadcast of exit poll outcomes till voting ends on Dec 20. The model code of conduct will be in force till combined results are declared, the bench further said. The order came while hearing three petitions — filed by Shakil Hamid Mansuri, Ashwini Burde and Sachin Chute — challenging SEC’s move to defer elections in certain civic bodies, where appeals are pending over acceptance or rejection of nomination papers. The petitioners argued that the revised schedule had fractured the uniformity of the electoral process and risked giving an unfair advantage to some candidates.Under the original programme, all municipal councils and nagar panchayats across Maharashtra were scheduled to vote on Dec 2. However, SEC last week postponed the polls in seats where appeals had been filed, saying it was necessary to provide a three-day period for withdrawal of nominations after disposal of appeals. While 264 nagar panchayats and municipal councils went to polls on Wednesday, voting in remaining 24 will take place on Dec 20.SEC told the court that while counting for local bodies with pending appeals would be held on Dec 21, results of the polls held on Tuesday will be announced on Dec 3, as originally scheduled. The bench firmly rejected the poll panel’s plan, saying that declaring results on Dec 3 would “affect the second-phase electorate”.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosNavy Chief Confirms India’S Third Nuclear-Powered Ballistic Missile Submarine Soon“Both ‘Rs Must Remember Responsibility”: Bjp Slams Rahul, Renuka Over ‘Dog’ RemarksNo More Disruptions: Lok Sabha to Debate Electoral Reforms Next Week’Imran Khan’s Health Stable, But Facing Mental Torture’, Claims Sister After Jail VisitChina’s Condom Tax Shocks the World Amid Birthrate Drop as India Surges Ahead in Population RankingsPakistan Sparks Controversy With Expired Relief Claims As India Rejects Airspace Allegation StronglyCentre Signals Willingness to Discuss SIR, Asks Opposition Not to Set TimelinePakistan’s Adiala Jail To Open Gate To Imran Khan’s Sister After PTI Fury Forces Sharif, MunirRussia Confirms Su-57 Fighter Jets, S-400 Deal On Agenda Ahead of Vladimir Putin’s India VisitCapt Shubhanshu Shares What India Can Learn from ISS Successes123PhotostoriesJennifer Lawrence’s fitness philosophy: 4 lessons to take from her realistic routine8 animals whose names start with the letter “S”Guava health benefits: 7 reasons why your daily plate needs this humble fruitExclusive – Bigg Boss 19’s Ashnoor Kaur addresses allegations of hitting Tanya Mittal during the task; bond with Abhishek Bajaj; says ‘There’s a platonic love between us’5 timeless quotes by Rumi that echo the true essenceof loveNature’s smartest travellers: 5 animals with homes on their backsFrom Cinnamon Tea to Methi Shots: 8 foods and drinks with proven heart benefitsShah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth: Actors who played both hero and villain in the same film9 lesser-known Biryanis from different parts of IndiaVictoria and David Beckham: Parenting secrets from one of the strongest celebrity couples123Hot PicksParliament Winter SessionCyclone DitwahWorld NewsGold rate todaySilver rate todayPublic Holidays NovemberBank Holidays NovemberTop TrendingNina Lin ControversyIPL AuctionShedeur SandersDrake MayeGold Price PredictionImran Khan ProtestWWE Raw HighlightsIND vs SA 2nd ODI TimeTom BradySmriti Mandhana

Panic gripped Srinagar as a Himalayan black bear was sighted at the University of Kashmir and later at SKIMS hospital, nearly 10km apart. Wildlife officials are deploying traps and drones to capture the elusive animal. Increased sightings are attributed to climate change and readily available food sources like garbage, disrupting hibernation patterns. File photo SRINAGAR: Over the past four days, a Himalayan black bear has been spotted nearly 10km apart at two premier institutions in Kashmir — University of Kashmir (UoK), Hazratbal, and Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar’s leading tertiary-care hospital — triggering panic. The wildlife department has placed cages at key locations, deployed drones, and is reviewing CCTV footage to trap the animal.A Himalayan bear was first spotted Friday near the girls’ hostel at UoK. CCTV footage showed the animal being chased by dogs outside the varsity gate, before climbing an electricity pole and leaping into the campus near the hostel. A UoK official said two black bears had been seen near Hazratbal area that evening, and one of them entered the campus after being chased by street dogs. The animal was believed to be hiding in the Botany Department’s botanical garden, prompting a search by the wildlife department. On Sunday, the varsity declared the campus safe after wildlife officials completed a thorough search and found no trace of the bear.On Monday evening, the black bear was sighted inside SKIMS. CCTV footage captured the animal roaming in the institute. Wildlife officials placed a bear trap within the premises to capture it. Senior institute officials said a search is on, but the animal has yet to be found.A senior wildlife official said a Himalayan black bear, first spotted in Saidpora area, had travelled through several localities before entering UoK and later moving toward SKIMS. An operation was underway to track the animal, he said, urging citizens not to dispose of garbage in the open as it attracts bears.Bear and leopard sightings around Srinagar have increased in recent years, particularly in late autumn. Last month, a bear was seen entering Amar Singh Club, Srinagar, near the posh Gupkar Road that houses the residences of the CM and some cabinet ministers.Senior wildlife official Intisar Suhail said black bears hardly go into hibernation now. “The effects of climate change, characterised by less precipitation, mainly snow; coupled with the availability of food in the form of garbage dumps, improperly disposed kitchen waste, and left-out fallen fruit in orchards, have enabled bears to skip hibernation and remain active through the winters,” he said.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosNavy Chief Confirms India’S Third Nuclear-Powered Ballistic Missile Submarine Soon“Both ‘Rs Must Remember Responsibility”: Bjp Slams Rahul, Renuka Over ‘Dog’ RemarksNo More Disruptions: Lok Sabha to Debate Electoral Reforms Next Week’Imran Khan’s Health Stable, But Facing Mental Torture’, Claims Sister After Jail VisitChina’s Condom Tax Shocks the World Amid Birthrate Drop as India Surges Ahead in Population RankingsPakistan Sparks Controversy With Expired Relief Claims As India Rejects Airspace Allegation StronglyCentre Signals Willingness to Discuss SIR, Asks Opposition Not to Set TimelinePakistan’s Adiala Jail To Open Gate To Imran Khan’s Sister After PTI Fury Forces Sharif, MunirRussia Confirms Su-57 Fighter Jets, S-400 Deal On Agenda Ahead of Vladimir Putin’s India VisitCapt Shubhanshu Shares What India Can Learn from ISS Successes123Photostories8 animals whose names start with the letter “S”Guava health benefits: 7 reasons why your daily plate needs this humble fruitExclusive – Bigg Boss 19’s Ashnoor Kaur addresses allegations of hitting Tanya Mittal during the task; bond with Abhishek Bajaj; says ‘There’s a platonic love between us’5 timeless quotes by Rumi that echo the true essenceof loveNature’s smartest travellers: 5 animals with homes on their backsFrom Cinnamon Tea to Methi Shots: 8 foods and drinks with proven heart benefitsShah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth: Actors who played both hero and villain in the same film9 lesser-known Biryanis from different parts of IndiaVictoria and David Beckham: Parenting secrets from one of the strongest celebrity couples5 shocking signs the ‘Universe’ is trying to send you a message (Don’t Ignore number 3!)123Hot PicksParliament Winter SessionCyclone DitwahWorld NewsGold rate todaySilver rate todayPublic Holidays NovemberBank Holidays NovemberTop TrendingCardi BIPL AuctionShedeur SandersDrake MayeGold Price PredictionImran Khan ProtestWWE Raw HighlightsIND vs SA 2nd ODI TimeTom BradySmriti Mandhana
