He claimed a demand for Rs 2.7 crore for a ticket was conveyed indirectly. RJD leader Madan Shah NEW DELHI: RJD leader Madan Shah — who last month was seen tearing off his clothes and breaking down after being denied a ticket for the Bihar assembly elections — on Sunday acknowledged that he felt “pained” by the party’s electoral debacle.“I am hurt that the party lost, but whatever God does is for the best. Lalu ji was not consulted on ticket distribution this time,” he told news agency ANI, referring to RJD supremo and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav.Six Ways Nitish Kumar Proved ‘Tiger Abhi Zinda Hai’ As NDA Registers Big Win in Bihar Assembly PollsShah remarked that he had put a “curse” that the party would not win more than 25 seats. The RJD and its allies were routed, winning only 35 seats, with the party winning exactly 25 seats.Recalling the earlier incident, he said he had been overwhelmed by grief at the time, which drove him to tear off his clothes in frustration. “The pain drove me to madness. I went to meet Lalu ji in Patna, but no one agreed to see me,” he stated.Addressing his earlier allegation that he had been asked for Rs 2.7 crore in exchange for a ticket, Shah clarified that the demand was not made to him “directly.” “It was conveyed through the media. So whom could I have given the money to? I couldn’t just throw it on the road. ‘Big leaders’ had said through the media that I should be asked for money in return for a ticket,” the RJD leader added. The Bihar assembly elections were conducted on November 6 and 11, while the counting of votes was held on Friday. The ruling NDA achieved a sweeping victory, securing 202 of the state’s 243 assembly seats.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. NEW DELHI: Tej Pratap Yadav issued an emotionally charged response after his sister Rohini Acharya announced she was quitting politics and severing ties with the Yadav family. In a post shared on his Janshakti Janta Dal party’s Instagram account, Tej Pratap warned those he described as “traitors” and made a heartfelt appeal to his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav.“Yesterday’s incident has shaken me to the core. What happened to me — I endured it. But the insult done to my sister is absolutely unbearable under any circumstances,” he wrote, adding: “Listen, traitors— If you target our family, the people of Bihar will never forgive you. When the emotions of the people are wounded, the dust covering their judgment is blown away.”In his statement, he accused unnamed individuals of influencing his brother Tejashwi Yadav’s political judgment. “These few faces have even clouded Tejashwi’s judgment. The consequences of this injustice will be extremely grave. Time’s reckoning is harsh,” he said.Tej Pratap ended by urging Lalu Prasad Yadav to intervene: “Father, give just one signal… just one gesture, and the people of Bihar themselves will bury these traitors. This is not a fight of any political party — it is a fight for the family’s honour, for the dignity of daughters, and for the self-respect of Bihar.”This comes months after Tej Pratap himself was expelled from both the RJD and the family following a bitter dispute over his personal life. Sunday’s turmoil, triggered by Rohini Acharya’s social-media posts detailing allegations of humiliation, abuse and expulsion from her parental home, has renewed scrutiny of internal power struggles within the family. Rohini claimed she was “disgraced, abused, and even hit” after questioning the leadership on the RJD’s poor performance in the Assembly elections. Also read: Rohini alleges insult over transplantAcharya had named RJD leader Sanjay Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav’s close friend Rameez Khan as responsible for the rift in the family. It was at their instance, she claimed, that she quit politics and left her parents’ home.RJD calls it a family matterRJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari described the controversy as an “internal family matter”, saying the party’s senior leadership would respond only after reviewing the situation. He also praised Rohini’s past contributions, calling her “an example” and someone “everyone would want as a daughter and sister”.Several of Rohini’s allegations were directed at Tejashwi Yadav, his close aide Sanjay Yadav, and a man identified as Rameez. She claimed she was accused of donating a “bad” kidney to her father “in exchange for crores of rupees and a party ticket”, and alleged that a slipper was raised to strike her.JD(U) spokesperson Sanjay Jha described the unfolding drama as a “Mahabharat” within the Yadav household. Hindustan Awam Morcha (Secular) leader Santosh Suman called the episode “unfortunate” and urged acceptance of the election mandate.LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan refused to politicise the matter, saying he understood the emotional strain of family disputes and hoped the situation would be resolved soon. The storm comes after RJD suffered a heavy defeat in the Bihar assembly polls winning just 25 of Bihar’s 243 seats, while the ruling NDA secured a commanding 202-seat majority.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Assam Minister Ashok Singhal’s X post referencing “gobhi farming” after Bihar election results has ignited controversy. Critics believe it alludes to the 1989 Bhagalpur riots’ “cauliflower burial case,” where victims’ bodies were allegedly concealed under cauliflower fields. Social media users condemned the perceived insensitivity, prompting a response from Shashi Tharoor who denounced such massacres. NEW DELHI: Assam minister Ashok Singhal’s X post on “gobhi farming” has sparked controversy. Following NDA’s landslide victory in the Bihar legislative elections, Assam’s minister of health and family welfare shared a picture of a cauliflower field with a caption, “Bihar approves gobhi farming.” Congress MO The social media since erupted in debates as to whether it referred to the infamous ‘cauliflower burial case’ that happened during the 1989 Bhagalpur riots.Social media users have expressed shock and disbelief after the minister appeared to reference a brutal massacre in a casual post, drawing widespread criticism for insensitivity and poor judgment. A user @isaifpatel quoted the post and called for Shashi Tharoor to get “influential Hindu leaders to condemn this normalisation of one of the worst pogroms perpetuated against Bihari Muslims.”In response, Shashi Throor stated that getting joint statements was not his job. He further went on to condemn the post as he wrote, “But as a passionate advocate of inclusive India and a proud Hindu, I can speak for myself, and for most Hindus I know, in saying that neither our faith nor our nationalism requires, justifies or condones such massacres, let alone applauds them.”During the 1989 riots in Bihar’s Bhagalpur, also known as the Logain massacre, killings of more than 100 muslims were reported. After the bodies of the victims were buried, to conceal the evidence, cauliflower saplings were planted all over the graves.
