NEW DELHI: Assam Police on Tuesday carried out a search at Congress leader Pawan Khera’s residence in connection with a case linked to allegation made by him against chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family.According to DCP Debojit Nath, Khera was not found at his residence. He, however, said that electronic devices were seized during the search.He also said that some “incriminating material” was also found at Khera’s residence without divulging into details.”The case has been registered at the Crime Branch Police Station in Guwahati,” the DCP said.”The whereabouts of the Congress leader are currently unknown, but he will be traced,” he added.The team formally informed Delhi Police upon arrival, following which a local police team joined in assisting in the proceedings, news agency PTI reported, citing sources.CM Sarma claimed that Khera has “run away” to Hyderabad, after daring the Assam police to arrest him.“Pawan Khera had dared the Assam Police to arrest him, but he has now run away to Hyderabad,” Sarma told PTI.“I don’t know why they have gone, as he (Khera) ran away yesterday itself. East and northeastern parts will be placed better than the rest of the country,” it said.“Equatorial Pacific ocean-atmosphere coupling is now stronger than before. El Niño is expected during the early phase of the southwest monsoon and will keep growing stronger till fall of the year. El Niño return may presage a weaker monsoon. The second half of the season is likely to be more erratic and irregular,” said Jatin Singh, managing director, Skymet.The weather agency, however, noted a “strong positive” Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) – another climatic phenomena linked to monsoon rains – during the season has the potential to “partially avert the ill effects of El Niño”. “IOD is expected to be neutral or delicately positive. It will contribute to a decent start of monsoon. However, the chances of monsoon getting impaired during the second half of season can not be dismissed. Indefinite curfew imposed in 5 valley districts in Manipur following the death of two children in a bomb attack NEW DELHI: The Manipur government imposed an indefinite curfew across four valley districts—Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Kakching—after two children were killed in a bomb blast that triggered violent protests and clashes with security forces. The state government has also decided to hand over the probe into the blast to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).District magistrates of the four districts issued separate orders prohibiting the movement of people outside their residences with immediate effect from April 7 until further notice. “The order shall not apply to government agencies engaged in maintenance of law and order, essential emergency and health services,” the notification stated.Earlier in the day, the government suspended internet and mobile data services, including broadband, VSATs and VPN, for three days in five valley districts in view of the tense law and order situation.Announcing the handover of the bomb attack case to the NIA, Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the decision was taken after discussions with the state home minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh and other MLAs. Indefinite curfew imposed in 5 valley districts in Manipur following the death of two children in a bomb attack NEW DELHI: The Manipur government imposed an indefinite curfew across four valley districts—Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur and Kakching—after two children were killed in a bomb blast that triggered violent protests and clashes with security forces. The state government has also decided to hand over the probe into the blast to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).District magistrates of the four districts issued separate orders prohibiting the movement of people outside their residences with immediate effect from April 7 until further notice. “The order shall not apply to government agencies engaged in maintenance of law and order, essential emergency and health services,” the notification stated.Earlier in the day, the government suspended internet and mobile data services, including broadband, VSATs and VPN, for three days in five valley districts in view of the tense law and order situation.Announcing the handover of the bomb attack case to the NIA, Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the decision was taken after discussions with the state home minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh and other MLAs.
