NEW DELHI: Ajit Pawar’s son and Nationalist Congress Party SP MLA Rohit Pawar on Tuesday questioned the pace of the investigation into the plane crash that killed former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, asking whether the 20-day delay was accidental or deliberate.Marking 20 days since the crash, the Karjat Jamkhed MLA alleged that the probe had failed to gain momentum and raised concerns about transparency.In a post on X, Rohit Pawar wrote, “The value of Ajit dada has been understood by ordinary citizens but it still doesn’t seem to have dawned on the investigative agencies. 20 days have passed since the unfortunate accident yet the investigation hasn’t gained any momentum. Is the delay solely to allow the VSR company to destroy evidence or does the company have someone’s protection? This question has arisen in the minds of common citizens. The information emerging today about the black box being damaged makes it seem like the possibility I predicted five days ago is turning out to be true. Be that as it may, we will not rest until we get answers whether it was an accident or a murder in the case of dada!”He also said he would hold a press conference in the next two days.Along with the post, Rohit Pawar claimed that the aircraft’s black box had been damaged. However, there has been no official response from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation or the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau regarding the claim.Aviation experts told ANI that black boxes are designed to withstand extreme conditions such as high temperatures, heavy impact and water immersion to ensure that stored data is not lost in the event of a crash.According to the ministry of civil aviation, a three-member team from the AAIB in Delhi and another three-member team from the DGCA Mumbai Regional Office reached the crash site on January 28. The Director General of the AAIB, G V G Yugandhar, also visited the site the same day.The ministry said the investigation is progressing expeditiously and confirmed that the black box of the ill-fated aircraft has been recovered. It added that the probe has been initiated in accordance with Rules 5 and 11 of the AAIB Rules, 2025.Nearly three weeks after the crash, there has been no public update from the DGCA or AAIB, and no preliminary report has been released so far. But for EPS, the election is about being relevant.Since the death of J Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK has struggled to retain its earlier dominance. However, leading a relatively smaller regional outfit, his political space is inherently fragile.A strong mandate would reaffirm his position as the central pivot of Puducherry politics; a weak performance could quickly erode that standing.The challenge is compounded by dependence on alliances. The AINRC’s partnership with the BJP has been crucial to forming and sustaining the government, but it also creates a delicate balance. While the alliance consolidates votes, it raises questions about how much independent political ground the AINRC retains.For Rangasamy, therefore, a victory would reinforce the viability of a regional force in a politically fluid territory. They ran amok, tearing down posters and banners, spitting on our campaign material, harassing and heckling women bystanders, and even showing shoes at the sacred Maa Kali temple,” she alleged.Stepping up her attack, the TMC supremo said the BJP’s campaign reflected a politics of intimidation and disrespect.“This is the ‘Poriborton’ they want to force upon Bengal. A culture of goondagardi, disrespect for women, and contempt for our faith and traditions. Bengal rejects this hooliganism with utter contempt,” she added.EVM warning: ‘Keep surveillance for 24 hours’Banerjee also raised concerns over the security of EVMs and urged booth-level workers to remain especially vigilant before and after polling.“Check all EVM machines thoroughly. Booth agents should also check the EVMs thoroughly… I know their plan… After voting, under the watch of CRPF and central forces, they might go inside and change the machine, so we need to keep surveillance for 24 hours. The Central Information Commission (CIC) has pulled up the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for denying information on an RTI plea seeking disclosure of whether bidders in railway tenders had declared links to the Rail Neer scam and related cases probed by central agencies, PTI reported.The applicant had sought details on whether companies bidding for tenders disclosed any cases registered by the CBI or the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against them, including their alleged involvement in the 2015 Rail Neer scam.RTI sought disclosure of CBI, ED casesThe RTI application specifically asked if bidders had declared that they were “accused in the famous Rail Neer scam” and that the CBI had “registered an FIR (RC-DAI-2015-A-0032) against them”.It also sought details on whether bidders disclosed that the ED had “registered a case under sections 120B read with Section 420 of the IPC and 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act”.Further, the applicant asked if companies informed authorities about developments such as raids, cash seizures, and whether a “chargesheet” or “complaint” had been filed by the agencies.CIC flags ‘mechanical’ denial by IRCTCIRCTC denied the information citing exemption under Section 8(1)(d) of the RTI Act, which covers commercial confidence and trade secrets.
