NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said he was happy that India won the bid to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030. The Prime Minister said that this achievement reflects India’s collective commitment and spirit of sportsmanship which has placed India firmly on the global sporting map.

“Delighted that India has won the bid to host the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030! Congratulations to the people of India and the sporting ecosystem,” PM Modi said in a post on X.The prime minister added, “It is our collective commitment and spirit of sportsmanship that has placed India firmly on the global sporting map. With the ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, we are eager to be celebrating these historic games with great enthusiasm.”Ahmedabad was formally awarded hosting rights of the centenary edition during Commonwealth Sport’s general assembly in Glasgow, clearing the decks for the event’s return to India after two decades.The general assembly of 74 members put a seal of approval on India’s bid after Ahmedabad was recommended as the proposed host by the Commonwealth Sport’s Executive Board last month.
