Florida man arrested after swinging machete at milk crates; charged with possession of deadly weapon
A Florida man has been arrested after allegedly swinging a machete at milk crates in a residential area in the Florida Keys, reports CBS News. Deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to Barcelona Drive on Big Coppitt Key at around 9 pm on April 9 following reports of a man behaving erratically. Callers told police the individual was seen brandishing a machete and striking objects outside.When officers arrived, they identified the suspect as 47-year-old Elijah Lee Tobridge of Key West. According to deputies, he was using the weapon to hack at milk crates in the area.Despite the aggressive display, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported during the incident.Tobridge was taken into custody at the scene without further trouble and transported to a local jail. Authorities said he has prior felony convictions, which may be relevant as the case proceeds.He has been charged with possession of a concealed weapon, described by deputies as a machete, and improper exhibition of a deadly weapon.The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said the incident caused concern among residents but did not escalate into violence involving others. Investigators have not indicated any further threat to the public.
