Defence minister Rajnath Singh stated that a two-thirds majority for NDA in Bihar would be a fitting tribute to former PM Jawaharlal Nehru on his birthday, November 14, the day poll results are declared. Singh emphasised that PM Modi is building the nation Nehru envisioned, contrasting it with the RJD’s ‘goonda raj’ and highlighting Bihar’s progress under Nitish Kumar. Defence minister Rajnath Singh NEW DELHI: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said that a two-thirds majority for the NDA in Bihar would be a “befitting tribute” to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his birthday, November 14 — the day poll results will be declared.Speaking at an election rally in Barh, Patna district, Singh said, “The day the Bihar poll results will be out happens to be the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He may not be one of our ideologues, may not belong to our party, but he was the first prime minister of our nation. I do respect him.” ‘NDA Coming To Power With Thumping Majority’: Bihar Minister Sanjay Saraogi On Assembly PollsHe added, as quoted by PTI, “If people vote the NDA to power by a two-thirds majority in Bihar on November 14, this will be a true tribute to Pt Nehru in real terms on his birthday. Do you want to accomplish this task or not?”Singh said the kind of nation Nehru envisioned is the same kind of nation Prime Minister Narendra Modi is striving to build — a developed and strong India.Targeting the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Singh said the people of Bihar no longer want “goonda raj” and credited chief minister Nitish Kumar for restoring order and development. “Nitish Kumar has largely been successful in undoing damage inflicted by RJD’s jungle raj,” he said. He said voters face a clear choice in the Bihar assembly polls — whether to return to “jungle raj” or continue on the path of progress. Speaking at another rally in Darbhanga Singh said, “We will release our manifesto on Thursday and implement every single word in it.”Singh said the BJP practices “fair and clean politics,” avoiding caste or religion-based politics. He also highlighted India’s economic growth, saying, “India has progressed from 11th position to 4th place in terms of economy under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership,” adding that “in a few years, it will reach the third spot.”About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Union home minister Amit Shah launched a strong attack on the INDIA bloc in Bihar, accusing Congress and RJD leaders of dynastic politics and corruption. He asserted that the ambitions of Sonia Gandhi and Lalu Prasad Yadav to see their sons in top posts would fail, as the Prime Minister and Chief Minister positions are not vacant. Amit Shah (Photo: PTI) NEW DELHI: Union home minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on the INDIA bloc during a series of rallies in Bihar on Wednesday, accusing Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav of promoting dynastic politics and corruption. Shah took sharp digs at both leaders, saying their ambitions to see their sons as chief minister and prime minister would fail, as “both the posts are not vacant.”In Khagariya, Amit Shah Frames Bihar Poll As Choice Between NDA’s Five Pandavas And RJD’s Jungle Raj’PM, CM seats not vacant’Addressing a crowd in Begusarai, Shah said, “The BJP has given tickets to many youngsters for the Bihar assembly polls, but the RJD and Congress have not, as Lalu ji wants to make his son Tejashwi to become the Chief Minister and Sonia Gandhi wants her son, Rahul to become the Prime Minister.”He went on to mock the opposition leadership, saying, “I want to say this to Sonia ji and Lalu ji — ‘Bihar mein na CM pad khali hai, Delhi mein PM pad khali hai. Aapke beto ka number nahi lagne wala hai’.”Shah also branded the opposition alliance as a corrupt coalition, remarking that the Mahagathbandhan was actually a ‘thug bandhan,’ led by leaders mired in scams.’Lalu and Rahul protect infiltrators’Shah further accused the RJD-Congress alliance of shielding infiltrators in Bihar’s voter lists. Taking aim at Rahul Gandhi, he said, “Rahul Baba had come here a month and a half ago. Now, after a month, he has come again today. When he came earlier, he had taken out a ‘Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra’.”Shah asked the crowd, “Today I have come to ask the people of Begusarai, and the followers of Lord Parashuram: should there be Bangladeshi infiltrators on Bihar’ s voter lists? Both Lalu (Yadav) and Rahul (Gandhi) have become protectors of Bangladeshi infiltrators. But today I promise you that our four candidates will identify them and remove every single infiltrator from the soil of Bihar.”He continued, “An infiltrator takes a share of our ration and grain, takes work meant for our labourers, and with their vote creates an anti-India government. Lalu and Rahul are protectors of infiltrators on the voter lists. Tell me: should the infiltrators be removed or not? Can Rahul remove them? Only Narendra Modi can remove them.”‘This election is not about making someone CM’Shah described the upcoming 2025 Bihar Assembly elections as a battle for the state’ s future, stating that, “The upcoming Bihar election of 2025 is not about making someone an MLA, a minister, or even a chief minister. This election is to save Bihar from jungle raj (lawlessness). We have witnessed jungle raj before, Begusarai was once an industrial district, but one by one, all industries on this land disappeared,” he said. His remarks come amid uncertainty over the NDA’s chief ministerial face, with the opposition mocking the alliance over it. “Bihar’ s soil was soaked in blood because of heinous crimes. Industries of crime, murder, ransom, extortion, and abduction began to flourish. For 15 years, Lalu and Rabri devastated the land of Bihar. Now, after 20 years, that same jungle raj is returning in the form of Tejashwi and Rahul’ s alliance,” the Union minister added.Cautioning voters, Shah said, “People of Bihar, be careful, one mistake will push Bihar back by 20 years. But if you make the right decision, under the leadership of Modi ji, a ‘Viksit Bihar’ will be built.”Shah praises Nitish-Modi duoAddressing another rally in Samastipur, Shah continued his attack on the opposition, targeting Lalu and Rabri over multiple corruption cases.”Lalu and Rabri Devi were involved in the fodder scam, land-for-jobs scam, hotel scam, export scam, and disproportionate assets scam. Can this ‘Mahathugbandhan’ do any good for Bihar? Only the Nitish Kumar and Narendra Modi duo can bring development to the state,” he said.Dismissing any doubts over NDA unity, Shah described the alliance as ‘paanch paandav,’ a strong team of five parties, and asserted that they would secure a “historic victory” in the coming polls.’They want to snatch Karpoori Thakur’s legacy’Shah also accused the opposition of attempting to politicise the legacy of former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur. “Modi ji bestowed Bharat Ratna upon Jannayak Karpoori Thakur. Now, they (opposition) want to take away the title from Karpoori ji. We will not let this happen. People have seen the real face of Congress that had prevented Babu Jagjivan Ram from becoming the PM,” he alleged.’Should Article 370 have been revoked?’Speaking later in Darbhanga, Shah highlighted Modi government’s work in both Ayodhya and Kashmir, stating that, “Here, a temple of Sita Mata is also being built. Brothers and sisters, tell me Kashmir is ours, isn’t it? Why is there any doubt? I am asking clearly: Is Kashmir part of India or not? And should Article 370 have been revoked or not?”He further alleged that, “For 70 long years, a Congress-led government, along with leaders like Lalu, kept Article 370 in place. But Prime Minister Modi abolished Article 370 forever on August 5, 2019. There was a time when terrorists would leave India’ s soil bloodied…But then a surgical strike was carried out, the second time an air strike was conducted, and the third time, Operation Sindoor was executed, during which Pakistan was cleaned up.”About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Yogi Adityanath LUCKNOW: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday announced a Rs 30 per quintal increase in sugarcane prices for the 2025-26 crushing season, terming it a major pro-farmer decision that will benefit lakhs of cultivators across the state. With the latest revision, the price of the early variety of sugarcane has been fixed at Rs 400 per quintal and the common variety at Rs 390 per quintal, Sugarcane Development and Sugar Industry Minister Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary said. “The increase will result in an additional payment of around Rs 3,000 crore to farmers,” he said during a press conference here. This marks the fourth time during this government’s tenure that the state advisory price for sugarcane has been raised. Officials said the decision is expected to boost farmers’ income and inject fresh momentum into the state’s rural economy. “The government considers it its top priority to honour the hard work of farmers. Sugarcane growers are not just producers but strong pillars of the state’s economy,” Chaudhary said, adding that ensuring timely and fair payment for their produce remains the government’s firm commitment. According to the minister, sugarcane farmers have so far received payments worth Rs 2,90,225 crore during the current administration. By comparison, a total of Rs 1,47,346 crore was paid between 2007 and 2017 during the previous Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party governments. “The current government has therefore made Rs 1,42,879 crore more payments in just eight and a half years,” he claimed. Chaudhary further said Uttar Pradesh currently has 122 operational sugar mills, placing it second in the country in sugar production. While 21 mills were sold off cheaply during previous regimes, the state’s transparent management and investor-friendly policies have attracted over Rs 12,000 crore in new investment in the sector, he claimed. The minister said that in the past eight years, four new mills have been established, six closed mills have been reopened, and 42 mills have expanded their crushing capacity, equivalent to the addition of eight large mills. Two sugar mills have also installed compressed biogas (CBG) plants, strengthening the alternative energy base in the sugarcane sector. Under the state’s “Smart Ganna Kisan” initiative, the entire process of area registration, scheduling, and the issuance of supply slips has been made online, he said. Farmers now receive their supply slips directly on mobile phones, and payments are transferred to their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The central government has recognised the system as a model initiative, the minister said. Highlighting the ethanol sector’s growth, Chaudhary said production in Uttar Pradesh has increased from 41 crore litres to 182 crore litres, while the number of distilleries has gone up from 61 to 97. The sugarcane acreage in the state has also expanded from 20 lakh hectares to 29.51 lakh hectares, making Uttar Pradesh the leading state in the country in sugarcane cultivation, he added.End of ArticleFollow Us On Social MediaVideosUP CM Yogi Adityanath Targets RJD’s ‘Osama’ in Shahabuddin’s Stronghold, Sparks Ram Temple ShowdownPak Minister Khawaja Asif Accuses Afghanistan Acting Under India’s Influence, Issues Brutal WarningDonald Trump Calls PM Modi ‘Killer’, Asim Munir a ‘Great Fighter’, Repeats India-Pak Ceasefire ClaimAmazon Launches Largest Layoff Drive Yet, Cutting 30,000 Corporate Positions to Boost EfficiencyIndia, EU Narrow Differences As Piyush Goyal Wraps High-Stakes Brussels Push For Swift Trade Deal“Even Ate The Animals’ Fodder” Prashant Kishore Slams Tejashwi After INDIA Bloc’s Bihar ManifestoOne Dead, Thousands Evacuated as Cyclone Montha Tears Through Andhra and OdishaGround Report From Supaul: Voters Reveal Poll Mood; Employment, Liquor Ban Key Issues | BiharChampion Of Global Boot-Licking? A Tamil Nadu police officer’s heartwarming rescue of a trapped puppy from a roadside pit melted hearts online. Officer Vinoth and his team used teamwork and quick thinking to save the trembling pup as its anxious mother watched. The grateful puppy’s tiny gesture of thanks turned the viral video into a powerful symbol of compassion and hope. NEW DELHI: Not all heroes sweep through the skies; some kneel by roadside pits with hearts of gold and a rope in hand. In Tamil Nadu, a police officer turned from law enforcer to life saver when he rescued a trembling puppy trapped in a roadside pit, creating a moment that tugged at every heart online. After faint whimpers echoed from a roadside pit, locals quickly realized a puppy had slipped into trouble. In true modern-day fashion, they did what any compassionate (and camera-ready) human would do: dial the rescue team and hit record, turning concern into a viral act of kindness. The now-viral video, shared by Coimbatore police officer Vinoth himself, begins with him widening the metal opening of the pit. The officer and his team then fashioned a makeshift loop using a water pipe and rope. With teamwork, one rescuer carefully slid the rope into the pit while another lit the path for the rescue. A third one guided a hook-like rod, steering the loop closer until it looped the frightened puppy waiting in the dark.Throughout the event, the mother dog stood guard, observing the entire operation very anxiously. When the trembling pup finally emerged from the pit, the mother rushed forward toward her kid. She licked, nudged, and cuddled her little one as if sealing the moment with love. And just when viewers thought their hearts couldn’t melt any faster, came the twist. The tiny, partially wet soul paused mid-waddle, walked toward Vinoth, and seemed to offer a puppy-sized “thank you” before returning to its mother’s side. The internet, predictably, couldn’t stay calm. Comment sections overflowed with ‘paw-sitive’ vibes, blessings for the officer, and heartfelt applause for his act of compassion. In that brief moment, humanity shone brighter than any flashlight in the pit. US President Donald Trump has said he “loves” Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described him as a strong and admirable leader, even as he once again repeated his baseless claim that he personally brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan in May.Speaking at a luncheon for APEC CEOs, Trump recounted his version of events from earlier this year, claiming he stopped a “war” between the two nuclear-armed neighbours through the use of trade pressure. “Prime Minister Modi he’s a great-looking guy. But he’s a killer — tough as hell. He said, ‘No, we will fight.’ I said, ‘Whoa, this is the same man I know?,’ he said.President Trump Delivers Keynote Remarks at APEC CEOs Luncheon“If you look at India and Pakistan — I was doing a trade deal with India, and I have great respect and love for Prime Minister Modi. They were really going at it,” Trump added. He went on to say that he told both PM Modi and Pakistan’s leadership that the US would not do business with either country while they were fighting. “I told Prime Minister Modi, ‘We can’t make a deal with you right now because you’re fighting with Pakistan.’ Then I called the Pakistani Prime Minister and told him we can’t make a deal with you because you are fighting India,” Trump said.According to Trump, both countries agreed to end hostilities within 48 hours after he threatened to impose “250% tariffs,” claiming that “seven planes had been shot down” and that his intervention “saved millions and millions of lives.”The 47th POTUS has repeated this claim multiple times since May, when he announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire after what he described as a “long night” of talks mediated by Washington.India, however, has consistently denied any US role, maintaining that the decision to cease hostilities was reached at the request of the Pakistani DGMO to his counterpart. Officials said the understanding was finalised on May 10 following four days of cross-border exchanges that began after India’s Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.Trump’s comments came as he continued his Asia tour, arriving in South Korea ahead of his scheduled meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the APEC summit in Gyeongju.About the AuthorTOI News DeskThe TOI News Desk comprises a dedicated and tireless team of journalists who operate around the clock to deliver the most current and comprehensive news and updates to the readers of The Times of India worldwide. Representational image CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana HC said a soldier wounded when he fell into a nullah while searching for terrorists during a counter-insurgency operation was entitled to war injury benefits, adding even accidental injury in action in an operational area was treated as a battle casualty. A division bench of Justice Harsimran Singh and Justice Vikas Suri HC passed the order while dismissing a petition filed by central govt challenging a Nov 22, 2023, order of Chandigarh bench of Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT), granting war injury pension to Havildar Sanjeeb Kumar. Centre’s counsel argued although Havildar Sanjeeb was permanently released under low medical category on Nov 30, 2020, for ‘fracture distal radius’ (wrist fracture) and granted disability pension, AFT’s order of war injury pension was incorrect. Soldier’s counsel contended he was searching for terrorists during his counter-insurgency duty along the Line of Control when he fell into Panar Nullah and got injured. After hearing both parties, HC held operations specifically notified by govt from time to time had been treated under Category E, and any disability arising out of these operations had to be treated as ‘battle casualty’. “Counsel for petitioners (central govt) has not been able to rebut the fact that the soldier was posted in Operation Rakshak on Line of Control between India and Pakistan, notified by govt of India. It was only while searching for terrorists in the area he fell in a nullah and sustained the injury,” HC said.About the AuthorAjay SuraAjay Sura is Senior Assistant Editor with The Times of India Chandigarh. He also lauded environmental initiatives like the ‘Garbage Café’ and mangrove plantations, encouraging the adoption of Indian dog breeds and remembering Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. PM Narendra Modi (File – agencies) NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday in the 127th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of Chhath Puja, describing the festival as a “beautiful example” of India’s social unity.Speaking during his monthly programme, he said, “Chhath reflects the deep unity of culture, nature and society,” and emphasized that it brings together people from all sections of society. The Prime Minister also lauded the armed forces for their success in Operation Sindoor, saying the achievement “filled the countrymen with pride.” He praised government efforts in anti-Naxal operations, noting, “lamps of joy were lit even in those areas where the darkness of Maoist terror once prevailed.”Highlighting innovative environmental efforts, PM Modi spoke about the ‘Garbage Café’ initiative in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh, where citizens can exchange plastic waste for meals. “Garbage Cafes are being operated in Ambikapur. These are cafes where you get a full meal in exchange for bringing plastic waste. If a person brings one kilogram of plastic, they receive lunch or dinner, and if someone brings half a kilogram of plastic, they get breakfast. These cafes are run by the Ambikapur municipal corporation,” he said.He also praised the Gujarat forest department for expanding mangrove plantations along the Dholera coast near Ahmedabad, adding, “Five years ago, teams from the forest department had started the work of planting Mangroves near Ahmedabad in Dholera, and today, Mangroves have spread across three and a half thousand hectares on the Dholera coast.”The Prime Minister encouraged the adoption of Indian dog breeds, noting their adaptability and the steps taken by forces such as the BSF and CRPF to increase their numbers. “About five years ago, I had discussed the Indian breed of dogs in this program… BSF and CRPF have increased the number of Indian breed dogs in their squads,” he said.Remembering Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel ahead of his 150th birth anniversary on October 31, PM Modi described him as “one of the greatest luminaries of the nation in modern times,” highlighting Patel’s focus on cleanliness, good governance, and national unity. “I urge all of you to participate in the ‘Run For Unity’ being organised across the country on October 31, and not just participate alone, but along with others,” he said.He also paid tribute to India’s national song, ‘Vande Mataram’, noting the 150th year of its celebration starting November 7. “‘Vande Mataram’- this single word carries so many emotions, so much energy,” Modi said. “The Vedas laid the foundation of Indian civilization with the sentiment expressed as Earth is the mother and I am her child. Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, by penning ‘Vande Mataram’, enshrined that same relationship between the motherland and its children as a mantra in the universe of emotions.”Modi further paid homage to tribal leader and freedom fighter Birsa Munda, ahead of Janajatiya Gaurav Diwas on November 15, saying, “I respectfully pay my homage to Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The work he did for the country’s independence and for the rights of the tribal community is unparalleled.”PM also touched on the renewed energy with which people are pursuing Sanskrit in different facets. “Unfortunately, during the period of slavery and even after independence, Sanskrit has continuously been subjected to neglect. Because of this, the attraction towards Sanskrit among the younger generations has also been diminishing. But friends, now that the times are changing, the times for Sanskrit are also changing. The world of culture and social media has given Sanskrit a new lease of life. These days, many young people are doing very interesting work with regard to Sanskrit,” he added. He went on to mention a young creator for his fondess of Sanskrit, “A young Content Creator – brother Yash Salunke.
