NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor, saying that the military action on Pakistan reflected “India’s firm response against terrorism and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security.”In a social media post on X, PM Modi said that the armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve, and gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians in Pahalgam. “A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during #OperationSindoor. They gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians in Pahalgam. The entire nation salutes our forces for their valour,” PM Modi said.“Operation Sindoor reflected India’s firm response against terrorism and an unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security. It also highlighted the professionalism, preparedness and coordinated strength of our armed forces. The Assam BJP dissolved its minority cell soon after all its Muslim candidates lost. Nationally, BJP has only two Muslim MLAs — Achab Uddin from Manipur and Tafajjal Hossain from Tripura.The gap is stark. In Bengal, Muslims constitute about 27% of the population but now account for only 12.6% of MLAs. In Bihar, they are nearly 17% of population but hold about 4.5% seats. In Assam, where Muslims comprise over a third of the population, their assembly share is roughly 17%. Maharashtra and Karnataka have Muslim MLA shares of only 3-4%, despite Muslim population shares of above 10%.Congress has the highest number of Muslim MLAs at 61, followed by National Conference with 39, and Trinamool and Samajwadi Party with 34 each. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday updated his official X profile picture to commemorate the first anniversary of “Operation Sindoor.”In a post on X, PM Modi also said, “A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during #OperationSindoor. They gave a fitting response to those who dared to attack innocent Indians at Pahalgam. On May 7, 2025, Indian armed forces carried out strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). During the operation, India destroyed nine major terror launchpads linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Hizbul Mujahideen.Indian armed forces killed over 100 terrorists during the operation.Pakistan responded with drone attacks and shelling, leading to a four-day conflict between the two neighbouring countries. NEW DELHI: Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are not seen by BJP’s rivals as its most avid supporters but it is these disadvantaged communities which played a key role in its landslide victories in West Bengal and Assam, as it has reaped even a bigger harvest in reserved seats in the two states than its overall impressive strike rate.In Bengal, BJP bagged all 16 seats reserved for STs, primarily in north Bengal and Junglemahal, the two regions that gave the party its first foothold in the state and have now become its citadel.In 68 constituencies reserved for SCs, BJP won 51, exactly 75%, reducing TMC to 57 as Dalits, which include Matuas, rallied behind the party like never before.If BJP’s surge to 207 seats in the 294-member assembly (one seat will go to repoll) from 77 in 2021 marks a huge broadening of support, its dominant show in reserved seats stands out for the deep roots it has made among these communities.That Matuas despite their misgivings about SIR and TMC’s intense attempts to woo them, stayed solidly with BJP highlights their trust in the party, its functionaries said.In Assam, things went even better for the party. With BJP stitching a broad alliance to appeal to different ethnic groups in a state full of diverse identities, which have been at times a source of fracture, it succeeded in annihilating its main rival Congress.BJP won five and its allies three of nine seats reserved for SCs, with Congress getting one. NEW DELHI: NCRB’s ‘Crime In India’ report brings into focus a worrying trend, with 34,878 cases being registered against juveniles during 2024, marking an increase of 11.2% over 2023 (31,365 cases).A total of 42,633 juveniles were apprehended in 34,878 cases, out of which 34,648 juveniles were apprehended under cases of IPC and BNS.The majority of juveniles in conflict with law who were apprehended were in the age group of 16 years to 18 years (77.7%) (33,129 out of 42,633) during 2024.As far as education qualifications go, 2,857 were illiterate, 8,989 juveniles had studied up to primary level, 21,068 had education levels between primary to matriculation, and 8,301 had education above matric to higher secondary.Data on background with regard to living arrangements showed that most juveniles in conflict with law were living with parents (36,905).
