NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday declared that opposition parties, united under the INDIA bloc, have resolved to firmly oppose the proposed delimitation bill in Parliament.Speaking to reporters after a crucial meeting of opposition leaders at the Constitution Club, Kharge emphasised the bloc’s collective stance. “We are united and have decided to oppose the delimitation bill,” he asserted, while expressing concerns over its potential to undermine democratic representation.”We all are in favour of the Women’s Reservation Bill. But the way in which they have brought it, we have reservations about that. It is politically motivated. Just to suppress the Opposition parties, the govt is doing this. Though we have supported the Women’s Reservation Bill continuously, we insist that the earlier amendments be implemented,” said Kharge.”They are playing some tricks over delimitation. We all parties should unitedly should fight in Parliament. We will oppose this bill, but we are not against the reservation (for women). The way in which they have put in the bill, be it delimitation, they have not even cleared the census. All powers of the Constitution are being taken by the executive. Mostly, the power which can be exercised by the institutions, the parliament they have given is so that they can change delimitation at any time…They have already deceived us in Assam and J&K,” he added.The gathering, attended by key figures from parties like the Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, and Aam Aadmi Party, signals renewed coordination ahead of Parliamen session, which begins on April 16. She highlighted that lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad visit the shrine, and commended the administration for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, security and crowd management. “Managing darshan for 70,000 to one lakh devotees daily without inconvenience is truly commendable,” she said, congratulating the TTD team for their efforts.Gupta further said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, women’s empowerment has gained renewed momentum in the country. She pointed out that several policies and programmes centred on ‘Nari Shakti’ have been implemented to make women self-reliant, empowered and capable of making decisions. Referring to an alleged case in Nashik involving Tata Consultancy Services, Jain claimed the incident had exposed a wider pattern that required urgent attention.He further alleged that similar activities could be occurring in other firms, including Tech Mahindra, though no independent verification of these claims was cited in the statement.The VHP also commended a group of police personnel who, it said, helped uncover the alleged Nashik case, claiming their intervention prevented more youths from being affected. To hide this, they are first increasing the total seats by 50% and then performing delimitation. This is a mere illusion. While it may appear that Tamil Nadu’s parliamentary seats will increase to 46, our proportional strength compared to northern states will drastically decrease.”He expressed concern that while the strength of states like Uttar Pradesh would jump from 80 to nearly 140, the collective voting power of the five southern states would drop from 24.3% to 20.7%. “This is a dangerous move that will further suppress and stifle the voice of south India in parliament,” he warned.Criticizing the decision to convene a special parliament session on April 16, Chidambaram asked, “When 67 MPs from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are busy with election work, why hold the session now? It is a planned conspiracy to prevent them from attending and voting against the bill.
